In accordance with federal requirements as a government contractor, Eastern Michigan University is required to present an Affirmative Action Audit, an Affirmative Action Plan for Women and Minorities, and an Affirmative Action Plan for Veterans and Individuals with Disabilities. Sharon Abraham, director of EMU's Office of Diversity and Affirmative Action, made the presentation to the Board of Regents' Educational Policies Committee meeting Jan. 15. The audit gives an overview and provides an analysis of the University workforce with special emphasis on the percentages of women and minorities in job groups compared to the education-related labor markets. Heather Neff (below), professor of communication and theatre arts, teaches a class. A breakdown of EMU's total workforce as of Sept. 18, 2007, includes numbers for women and minorities. They are as follows:
Female faculty* 665 or 57.1 percent
Female staff 381 or 48.3 percent
Female faculty and staff 1,046 or 53.1 percent
Minority faculty 226 or 19.4 percent
Minority staff 141 or 17.9 percent
Minority faculty and staff 367 or 18.8 percent
