Eastern Michigan University has created a new academic program in international affairs. The new bachelor's degree program was approved by the Board of Regents at its regular meeting Jan. 15.

"The program is designed to prepare students for participation in a global society, including work with government, business, and non-government organizations," said Richard Stahler-Sholk, associate professor of political science. "It is intended for students who are interested in diplomacy, international affairs and international service."
The program will consist of between 54 and 64 credit hours, depending upon which of the two paths a student chooses. The undergraduate degree has a core of 18 three-credit hour courses for a total of 54 credits. For students interested in attaining foreign language proficiency, additional foreign language credits will be required, bringing the total to 61-64 credits.
The program is scheduled to begin in fall 2008.
There is no cost for this program because it was created from existing and modified courses.
