The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents approved the appointments of 15 staff at its regular meeting Jan. 15.
Of the 15 appointments, seven (47 percent) are female and eight (53 percent) are males. The group demographics include 11 Caucasians (73 percent), three African Americans (20 percent), and one Asian (7 percent).

O'Dell |
Gregory O'Dell, of Ann Arbor, executive director, public safety. Before coming to EMU, O'Dell served as deputy chief of the Ann Arbor Police Department from January 2004 to the present. During his almost 20 years with the Ann Arbor Police Department, O'Dell served in numerous positions, including interim chief from November 2005 to June 2006. He began his career in law enforcement with the City of Burton Police Department in 1979. O'Dell received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Toledo College of Law in 1996 and his bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1992. He also is a graduate of the EMU School of Staff and Command (2000).
Jacob Boss IV, of Ypsilanti, head baseball coach, intercollegiate athletics. Prior to coming to EMU, Boss was an assistant baseball coach/recruiting coordinator at the University of Michigan from 2004-2007. He also was an assistant baseball coach at EMU from 1998-2004. Boss received his master's degree in physical education from Eastern Michigan University and his bachelor's degree in English from Alma College.

Qin |
Joe Malachino, of Howell, Mich., assistant coach, women's soccer, intercollegiate athletics. Before coming to EMU, Malachino was a Michigan Youth Soccer coach from 1993-2007, and was a player/coach for the Mid-Michigan Bucks soccer team from 2000-2001. He received his bachelor's degree in physical education from Texas Christian University.
Xinghua Qin, of Canton, Mich., database specialist, IT enterprise applications and services. Before coming to EMU, Qin was a senior database administrator for the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research, University of Michigan, from 2006-2007. Previously, Qin was a database administrator for Lourdes College in Sylvania, Ohio, from 1999-2006. She received her master's degree in manufacturing management from the University of Toledo and her bachelor's degree in computer and ITS applications from Zhongyuan University of Technology, China.

Thompson |
George Thompson, of Ottawa Lake, enterprise support technician I, IT-Academic Technology and Computing Services (ATCS). Before coming to EMU, Thompson was a desktop support specialist at the University of Michigan from 2006-2007. From 2000-2006, he was a design services supervisor for TNS in Northwood, Ohio. Thompson received his bachelor's degree in business information systems from the University of Toledo.
Nancy Higgins, of Dexter, coordinator, bachelor's of science nursing program, School of Nursing. Higgins most recently was manager of employee health services at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital from 1990-2007. Higgins received both her master's and bachelor's degrees in nursing from Wayne State University.

Leicht |
Christopher Leicht, of Ypsilanti, data analyst, accreditation and learning assessment, College of Business. Leicht previously was an undergraduate adviser in Eastern Michigan University's College of Business from 2005-2007. Leicht received both his MBA in finance specialization and his bachelor's degree in French business from Eastern Michigan University.
Alvin Dumas II, of Ypsilanti, manager of audiovisual services, Student Center operations. Before coming to EMU, Dumas was director of music/arts and multimedia for New Grace Temple in Ann Arbor from 2006-2007. Dumas also was director of music and multimedia at Messias Temple Church in Ypsilanti from 2005-2006. Dumas received computer program certifications from Marygrove College in Southfield.

Hawkins |
C. Evelynn Hawkins, of Pittsburgh, Pa., music announcer/librarian, WEMU-FM. Hawkins has worked in radio since 1984 as an announcer and producer. For the past nine years, she was music director at WDUQ-FM in Pittsburgh, a station with a similar format to WEMU's jazz and news mix. She received her master's degree in student personnel administration from Western Washington State College; a master's in anthropology from the University of Washington; and a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from the University of Illinois.
