Valentine's Day cake

 

  • Valentine's Day treats: Order a Valentine's Day cake, cookie or brownie for that special someone! Choose from a yellow cake with white frosting, a chocolate chip cookie, or a chocolate brownie. All pastries are 9" heart-shaped, each inscribed with a special message in pink icing. Choose "Happy Valentine's Day" or "I love you." Each pastry comes ready-to-travel. The cost is $8 each. Orders must be placed by Feb. 10 with pick-up either Friday, Feb. 13, beginning at noon; or Saturday, Feb. 14, all day. To place an order, visit the Eastern Eateries.   • Office ergonomics course: Human Resources' Lunch and Learn Series continues with "Office Ergonomics," Wednesday, Feb. 11, noon to 2 p.m., room 100, McKenny Hall. Steve Shepard, from UAW's Health and Safety Education Department, will head the workshop that will teach EMU employees how to identify ergonomic risk factors associated with the office workplace. Employees will learn how to complete an office risk analysis and discuss potential problems. To register, e-mail hr_tpd@mich.edu with the course title and number, and your contact information.
  • Distinguished Speaker Series: The president of the Drug Information Association kicks off Eastern Michigan University's Sixth Annual Clinical Research Administration Series. Marie A. Dray, also a well-known consultant in regulatory affairs, presents, "The Role of Regulatory Affairs in Drug Development in the Company and in Industry," Thursday, Feb. 12, 7:30 p.m., EMU Student Center Ballroom. Stephannnie Vandenburg, EMU's associate athletics director/senior women's administrator; AnnMarie Gilbert, EMU's women's basketball coach; and Cassie Schrock, a sophomore guard on the EMU women's basketball team, are expected to model during the luncheon's fashion show.

Go Red for Woman celebrates, educates and motivates women to know the risks and reduce their risk to eliminate heart disease. Arrive by 11 a.m. for networking opportunities, a silent auction, massage chairs, makeup by Christian Dior, health screenings and other educational/promotional displays. Educational sessions are scheduled from 9-9:45 a.m. and 10-10:45 a.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by contacting Ryan Davis at (734) 483-1697 or e-mail him at ryan.davis@heart.org.

  • 2008 W-2 notice for EMU employees: All W-2s were mailed Thursday, Jan. 29, to EMU employees' local addresses or active main permanent addresses (if no local address). If an EMU employee does not receive their W-2 by Feb. 16, they should contact the Payroll Department, room 104, Hover Building, or at 487-2393, for instructions on obtaining a replacement.   • Women's Ware/Women's Wear: The exhibition "Women's Ware/Women's Wear" will run Feb. 17 through March 26, University Gallery. The exhibition asks the question, "How do works of art by women and about women resonate today?" The exhibit explores the role that gender plays in women's art and features works in a varierty of media, including those traditionally associated with women, such as fibers/textiles and jewelry/metalsmithing. An opening reception takes place Wednesday, Feb. 18, 4-6 p.m., in University Gallery. The reception will be followed by a panel discussion in room 310A, Student Center.   • SAC Program Review input from campus sought : Eastern Michigan University's Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology (SAC), one of the Academic Review and Continuous Improvement Cycle's departments, has completed its program reviews for 2008-2009. The department invites the campus community to provide input and feedback to complete the review process. All interested faculty and staff are invited to review and comment on the SAC program reviews electronically, via the REPORTS tab on my.emich, through Feb. 20. To access the SAC program review report, log in to my.emich, click on the REPORTS tab, and click on the IRIM Reports.   • MBA Open House scheduled Feb. 19: An MBA Open House is scheduled Thursday, Feb. 19, 4-7 p.m., EMU-Livonia campus. at 1-275 and Six Mile Road. The open house will provide those interested in pursuing an MBA with the following: meet academic advisers and faculty; get the admissions application fee waived; and tailor a program to one's unique experiences and interests.   • EMU to host ESPNU BracketBuster game: The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will host Georgia State University in the seventh annual ESPNU BracketBuster Saturday, Feb. 21, at 4 p.m. The game will be part of a doubleheader in the Convocation Center with the EMU women's team hosting Mid-American Conference West Division rival Northern Illinois University at 2 p.m. For tickets, call 487-2282.
  • Speech-Language Pathology program to host site visit: Eastern Michigan University's Speech-Language Pathology program, within the department of special education, will host site visitors from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's (ASHA) Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) March 5-6. The site visitors will conduct a meeting Thursday, March 5, 4:30-5 p.m., room 135 F-1, in the clinical suite of the Porter Building.   • Hosts sought for student networking dinner program: The Student Organization for Alumni Relations (SOAR) seeks EMU graduates to serve as dinner hosts for groups of up to 12 previously unacquainted guests. The "Dinner with 12 Strangers" program was created to provide an informal environment for students to connect with alumni and faculty, and strengthen the University network through new friendships. Dinners can range from a catered affair to a casual meal. The spring "Dinner with 12 Strangers" will take place March 20-22.   • Fall Out Boy coming to Convo: Famous band, Fall Out Boy, will perform at EMU's Convocation Center, May 8, 6:30 p.m. The emo-rock band has released six albums, with their most recent entitled, "Live in Phoenix."   • Faculty Tutor Appreciation Day nominations: Have you had a tutor, suppemental instructor (SI) or faculty member who inspired you or worked above and beyond your expectations? If so, Holman Learning Center is providing you with the opportunity to recognize this special person. Faculty Tutor Appreciation Day nomination forms can be filled out and submitted now at http://tlc.emich.edu/programs/fta/NominationForm.htm. The nomination deadline is Friday, March 13.
