Attention, all lovers of food, health and free samples.
March is National Nutrition Month and Eastern Michigan
University's Office of Nutrition Services presents "Eat
Right" on Campus.
Festivities kick off Feb. 18 when the Office of Nutrition
Services (ONS) hosts an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.,
in the lobby outside of 108 Roosevelt Hall. Activities
will include fresh stir-fry samples provided by
Chef Tom Murray; a taste test of coffee and sandwiches
offered from Beezy's Café; Zingerman's Deli, of
Ann Arbor, will provide food samples; and employees from
Whole Foods Market will be on hand to pass out free samples.

Jenna Wunder, a registered dietitian

Snow Health Center nurses will be available to provide
free blood pressure readings, and the Ann Arbor Institute
of Massage will provide free, relaxing massages. Janet
Simpson, life coach and sports nutritionist; Alice Jo Rainville,
an expert in school nutrition and food service; and Diane
Reynolds, who has extensive experience in community-based
nutrition — all registered dietitians at EMU — will
be available to answer any nutrition questions.
The purpose of National Nutrition Month, as stated by
the American Dietetic Association, is to "focus attention
on the importance of making informed food choices and developing
sound eating and physical activity habits." National Nutrition
Month has been celebrated all over the country since 1980.
Additional celebratory events will take place on campus
during March.
Jenna Wunder, a registered dietitian from The University
of Michigan's Department of Integrative Medicine, will
discuss the University of Michigan Healing
Foods Pyramid March 11, noon to 2 p.m., Roosevelt
Auditorium.
Of all the events planned, Nancy Parker, a registered
dietitian and supervisor of EMU's Office of Nutrition Services,
said she is looking forward to this session the most.
"I am excited to hear her talk about the evolution of
the Healing Foods Pyramid because it was developed at the
University of Michigan's Department of Integrative Medicine," Parker
said.
Whole Foods Market will provide healthy refreshments at
the lecture.
Chef Tom Murray will dazzle the audience with his culinary
skills on the Student Center Stage March 19, 11 a.m. to
2 p.m. Murray will demonstrate how to prepare and cook
fresh, flavorful, and healthy vegetables. Free samples
also will be provided.
For those unsure if there are any healthy dining options
on campus, please attend the healthy eating campus tour.
Join dietetics students Wednesday, March 25, at 1 p.m.,
near the Student Center Stage, for a tour of numerous dining
facilities, which offer healthy meal options. Learn
some tips and tricks for eating out, including fast food
restaurants, and taste more free food samples.
These events, funded through a grant by the Southeastern
Michigan Dietetic Association (SEMDA) and the Office of
Nutrition Services, are open to students, faculty, staff
