The following are news briefs about important
activities and events happening at Eastern Michigan University.

Faculty, staff encouraged
to get Eagle Cards: New faculty/staff ID
cards can be acquired at the Eagle Card office in 21
McKenny Union. The new ID has the picture of the sculpture
in front of Mark Jefferson and your new ID number on
it. If you have not visited the Eagle Card office since
August 2005 to have a new picture taken, please visit
the Eagle Card office soon. Faculty and staff,
who have been authorized to enter a specific building
after hours, can use their Eagle Card once the new card
access system is in place. You must bring a
driver's license or photo ID with you to the Eagle Card
office in order to verify identity. The Eagle Card office
is open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Friday, 9
a.m.-4 p.m. For questions, call 487-3176.
- Valentine's Day blood
drive: Consider stopping by the Valentine's
Day Blood Drive, scheduled Tuesday, Feb. 14, noon-6 p.m.,
Multicultural Lounge, King Hall. Your blood is needed
to help others. First-time donors are welcome. Career
Services, Student Judicial Services and University Health
Services sponsor this blood drive. For questions, call

Bishop Gumbleton
to speak: Human
rights advocate Bishop Thomas J. Gumbleton presents "Faith
and Activism on Campus" Thursday, Feb. 16, 8 p.m.,
Alumni Room, McKenny Union. He is currently a retired
Auxiliary Bishop in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese
of Detroit and pastor of St. Leo's, an inner-city parish.
Gumbleton has served as a member of the board of the
Gandhi Institute for Non-Violence, Interfaith Committee
on Worker Issues, Witness for Peace and many more organizations.
He holds a doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical
Lateran University (Rome). Gumbleton has received six
honorary degrees and 22 awards for his work to promote
justice and peace in the United States and around the
world, including the University of Notre Dame Peacemaker
Award and the National Peace Foundation Award. McKenny
Union, Campus Life, Diversity Programs and Holy Trinity
Student Parish sponsor this event. For information,

- Third Day performs
Feb. 19: Third Day will perform in concert
Sunday, Feb. 19, 6 p.m., Convocation Center. Doors
open at 5 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the
Convocation Center. Main floor artist circle tickets
are $32. All other tickets are $28. For groups of
15 or more, tickets are $23 each, plus two comps.

- Supevision EMU offered
in March: Human Resources will offer "Supervision
EMU: Mastering Effective Supervision Skills," this March
with sessions scheduled Wednesdays, March 1, 8, 22, 29;
and April 3 and 12. Sessions will run 8 a.m.-4:15 p.m.
each day. This six-day program is designed to help new
and experienced supervisors review the fundamental principles
of successful supervision. The program will provide
fundamental knowledge, administrative skills and techniques
necessary for supervisors to be successful at Eastern
Michigan University. Breakfast
and lunch will be available to participants at
each session. Enrollment is free
to University supervisors and managers. However, space
is limited. To register for Supervision EMU, please contact
your department manager or director to request consideration
through your vice president's office. For more information

- Scholarship deadline: Applications
for the EMU Alumni Association Scholarship are due Friday,
March 3, to the Office for Alumni Relations. Students,
who are children or grandchildren of EMU alumni and who
will be enrolled as freshmen, sophomores or transfer
students at EMU in the fall semester, may apply. The
award granted per recipient is $1,000 per academic year
and may be renewed for four consecutive years if the
criteria are met. For more information and to download

- Come to the Mardi Gras
March 3: EMU's Convocation Center will host
a Mardi Gras party, featuring Buckwheat Zydeco, Friday, March
3, 7 p.m. All proceeds will go to Huron Valley Habitat for
Humanity in response to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.
Tickets are $15 and are available at the Convocation Center
