For the first time since 2003, the state of Michigan is providing budget
increases to higher education. After three years of cuts, the state's 15
public universities would receive — under Gov. Granholm's proposed
budget released Feb. 9 — an increase of approximately $28.4 million
or 2 percent. However, budget increases for the state's public universities
range from a high of 3.86 percent for Lake Superior State University to
a low of 1.55 percent for Western Michigan University. Eastern Michigan
University (pictured below) would receive a 1.95 percent increase under
the proposal. The state's public universities and the percentage increase
they would receive from the state are as follows:
Lake Superior State 3.86 percent
Saginaw Valley State 2.92
percent
U-M Flint 2.47 percent
U-M Dearborn 2.21
percent
Grand Valley State 2.16 percent
Central Michigan 2.09 percent
Oakland University 2.04 percent
Michigan State 2.0 percent
U-M Ann Arbor 2.0 percent
Wayne State 2.0 percent
Eastern Michigan 1.95 percent
Northern Michigan 1.84 percent
Michigan Technological 1.79 percent
