Eastern Michigan University's 2006-2007 annual report was recently released and highlights everything from research funding earned by EMU faculty to the individual achievements of students in the classroom, community and on playing fields. Some examples are as follows:
$100,000: Amount the College of Education received in October 2006 from Robert L. Johnston to furnish an early educational classroom and resource library in the Porter Building.
$388,870: Grant amount Joan Abbey, a professor in the School of Social Work, received from the U.S. Department of Justice in January 2007 to continue a statewide study related to Michigan's Infant Mental Health Model started in 2005.
$287,670: Amount Alexander Jeffrey Popko and Thomas Cullen, professors in the department of foreign languages and bilingual studies, received to collaborate with the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools in teaching English to speakers of other languages.
2nd: Place EMU's forensics team earned at the National Forensics Association Tournament in April 2007.
32,000 hours: Community service donated by VISION students
Eight: The number of Mid-American Conference championships EMU athletic teams won in 2006-2007. It was a conference record.
