FROM
THE COCOON: Brooks
Stevens, an Eastern Michigan University assistant
professor of fine arts, displays "Binding
Expectations," her creation made
from steel frame, steel binding wire,
silk organza, coffee and glue. Stevens
said this piece was inspired by her experience
as a woman, wife and mother in modern
society. The skin was inspired by cicadas
and the molt they leave behind to live
their adult lives. The work is part of
University Gallery's "Women's
Ware/Women's Wear" exhibit,
which runs through March 26. The exhibition
brings together the work of 15 artists that
examines women's thoughts, feelings and ideas
in a deeply metaphorical way.
