Now that representatives of Eastern Michigan University
and the EMU chapter of the American Association of University
Professors (AAUP) have concluded their presentations in
the fact-finding process, the next step will be for both
parties to file post-hearing briefs with the fact finder
no later than March 16.
After reviewing the briefs, the fact finder will issue
a finding that will summarize his recommendations for how
best to resolve each remaining issue in the collective
bargaining agreement. The primary topics to be addressed
are compensation, health care benefits and employer retirement
contributions.
The fact finder should render his recommendations by early
April, according to Rhonda Longworth, interim assistant
vice president for academic affairs. Both sides
will then go back to the negotiating table to finalize
the agreement based on the fact finder's report.
Once EMU's brief is filed, it will be posted to the University's
negotiation Web site at www.emich.edu/aaup_negotiations/factfinding.php.
The Web site also contains the administration's presentation
materials from fact finding and Provost Don Loppnow's letter
regarding the University's position on the fact-finding
process.
