Even before I started working here, EMU was
an important part of my community. I've lived a few blocks
from campus since 1993 and have two daughters in Ypsilanti
public schools. So, over the years, our family has had
connections with EMU on many different levels. When it
came time for me to go back to work after staying home with my kids, Eastern
Michigan University was the only place that I applied. And I was hired
after my first interview. In addition to working here, I am continuing
my education in the Master's of Liberal Studies program through the College
of Technology.
I started here in April 2002 as a secretary in the College of Education.
I later moved on to a clerical position in the Provost's Office and, in
January 2007, assumed my current role as administrative associate to the
provost. I've really enjoyed my colleagues in both departments. They have
been tremendously supportive and have encouraged me to be creative, and
to develop myself both professionally and personally. The most important
part of my day is the people I interact with, and I really like being
able to work with a large cross-section of the University population.
In my current position, I assist the provost and associate provost with
various divisional issues and special projects, and research
and data analysis. I also coordinate divisional events, such as the Lecturers'
Outstanding Teaching Award and the Faculty Awards Ceremony,
and will soon undertake a renovation of the Academic Affairs Web site.
This job is a wonderful opportunity for me because I like to organize,
and I enjoy being helpful to people. Whether it is a fellow
co-worker or a concerned student, I try to make myself as much of an all-around
resource as I can. Being able to make a positive difference
for someone else is the best part of my job.
