Fallon recommended as EMU's 21st president

John A. Fallon, III, has been recommended as Eastern Michigan University's 21st president.

Eastern Michigan University Regents Jan Brandon and Steve Gordon, co-coordinators of the Presidential Search process, announced March 14 that they will recommend Fallon to the University'as top spot. The Board of Regents is expected to vote on the recommendation at its regular meeting March 15.

Brandon called Fallon, president of the State University of New York (SUNY)-Potsdam
since 1998, the ideal person to lead Eastern Michigan University forward.

EMU President Samuel Kirkpatrick

FOR YOUR RECOMMENDATION:
John A. Fallon, III, president
of the State University of New
York (SUNY)-Potsdam, has been
recommended as EMU's 21st
president. The Board of Regents
are expected to vote on the
recommendation at its regular
meeting today.

“John has an ideal combination of skills and experiences. He is a proven and effective administrator, fundraiser and friendraiser. Feedback from people who have worked for and with him, and from students, was that he is committed to the teaching and learning process, is trustworthy and open. Those were attributes the Board identified as being critical for the new president,” Brandon said.

“I am honored and excited to be recommended for the presidency at Eastern Michigan University,” Fallon said. “EMU is a very special place with a faculty and staff that are committed to providing an outstanding educational and co-curricular experience for students. I was impressed with the University’s commitment to public engagement. I believe the institution’s core values are consistent with mine and look forward to working with students, faculty, staff, alumni, the community and the Board of Regents to further enhance its value to the State.”

Fallon was described by Jessica Suchy-Pilalis, immediate past chair of the Faculty Senate at SUNY-Potsdam, as a consensus builder who considers all options and looks for unconventional solutions.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with the recommendation,” said Dennis Beagen, chair of the Regents Advisory Committee (RAC). “The Board gave us a rather comprehensive list of skills and attributes against which we were asked to evaluate all candidates. Clearly, in Dr. Fallon, we found an individual who embodies those characteristics. I think he will be an energetic and visible leader for the University.”
