The following are news briefs about important activities and events happening at Eastern Michigan University.

  • Laura Dickinson memorial: EMU will host a candlelight memorial vigil for Laura Dickinson Tuesday, March 20, 8 p.m. The vigil will start at the courtyard next to Hill residence hall. The group will then walk to the east patio of the Student Center, which faces University Park and the lake. A short program will follow. In the event of rain, the vigil will be in Ballroom A of the Student Center. All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend. For more information, call Kay Woodiel at 487-6790.
  • Board of Regents meeting: The Board of Regents meets Tuesday, March 20, Welch Hall. The schedule is as follows: Athletic Affairs Committee, 1:15-1:55 p.m., Room 201; Education Policies Committee, 1:15-1:55 p.m., Room 205; Student Affairs Committee, 2:05-2:45 p.m., Room 201; Faculty Affairs Committee, 2:05-2:45 p.m.; Finance and Audit Committee, 2:55-4:05 p.m., Room 201; and Regular Board Meeting, 4:15 p.m., Room 201.     Michigan collects Ruth Weisberg: A 40-year retrospective of Ruth Weisberg's work will be shown at the University Art Gallery in the Student Center through April 27. Weisberg was one of the first American artists to take a self-consciously feminist approach to art. A Jewish artist, her work treats such subjects as the Holocaust and Jewish rituals in an attempt to build cross-cultural understanding with non-Jewish viewers. This event is part of Women's History Month. For more information, call 487-0465.
  • Photos needed: New EMU administrators, as well as staff with a PT07 rank or higher, who are being approved at the March 20 Board of Regents meeting, need to schedule their headshots by Monday, March 26. Photos are needed for the Office of Marketing and Communications' files and for use in FOCUS EMU. To schedule an appointment, call Randy Mascharka, 487-4403.  
  • Halle Library computer lab hours: The Halle Library ground floor computer lab is open until 1:45 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. The extended hours began Sunday, March 18. Patrons must be in the building by midnight. No one will be admitted after that time. The entire library will be open until 2 a.m. for quiet study, Sunday through Thursday, starting April 16-19 and again April 22-26. The computer labs and the circulation desk will be open (ground floor computer lab open until 1:45 a.m.). For more information contact Rita Bullard, 487-0020, extension 2141.

  • The Good Person of Setzuan: EMU Theatre presents "The Good Person of Setzuan," written by Bertolt Brecht, adapted by Tony Kushner and directed by Wallace Bridges. A soul struggles against the mores of society in this poignant play charged with theatricality, humor, song and poetry. EMU guest artist and McAndless Scholar N. Scott Hofmann has designed the set and lighting, incorporating multi-media into this non-traditional production.   Performances will be in the Quirk Theatre March 23, 29, 30, 31 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 24, 5 and 9 p.m.; and Sunday, March 25, 2 p.m. For tickets, call 487-1221.
  • Staff Gold Medallion Awards Program postponed: The Division of Student Affairs has announced the postponement of its annual Staff Gold Medallion Program. It will be rescheduled at a later date. The Student Gold Medallion Program will go on as scheduled, Tuesday, March 27, 3:30 p.m., Student Center Ballroom, to honor the many contributions of our students, some of whom will be graduating in April.
