EMU to host young alumni home-buying seminar

By Pamela Young

It's a home buyers' market in southeastern Michigan and a great time for Eastern Michigan University's Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) to take advantage of a free home-buying seminar hosted by the Office for Alumni Relations.

The event, also open to EMU students, is Tuesday, March 27, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the University's Student Center, 900 Oakwood St., Ypsilanti.

The program, sponsored by Weir Manuel Realtors of southeast Michigan and ChaseBank, begins at 6:30 p.m. with a complimentary hors d'oeuvres reception, followed by the home-buying seminar at 7 p.m. GOLD alumni also are invited to attend an afterglow at Sticks Pool & Pub, 39 E. Cross St., Ypsilanti, for socializing and networking following the program.

There is no cost to attend. However, advance registration is required. To R.S.V.P., contact the Office for Alumni Relations via e-mail at alumni.relations@emich.edu or call 487-0250.

The GOLD program is open to all EMU graduates of the past 10 years and serves the Alumni Association by catering to the needs of its younger constituents. Like the Alumni Association, there are no dues for membership. Events are designed to further the program's mission of fostering strong bonds between young alumni and EMU through social, networking, educational and volunteer opportunities.

"We want to provide our alumni with resources to help them make the best decisions with regard to first-time home buying," said Ken Ruppel, assistant director of constituent relations. "Our office is pleased to continue our series of informative seminars aiding GOLD alumni in their successful post-graduate life transitions."
