Smashing the Ceiling: Magdalen
Hsu-Li, an internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter,
painter and cultural activist, presents a musical lecture
entitled, “Smashing the Ceiling,” Tuesday,
March 24, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Student Center Auditorium.
Hsu-Li will share her personal experiences,
while assisting the audience in finding ways to explore
and redefine their own identities. This event is part
of Women's History Month. For more information, call

- Women of Excellence
Awards Luncheon: Eastern Michigan University's
Women's Center hosts The Women of Excellence Awards
Luncheon Wednesday, April 1, 12:30-2:30 p.m., Student
Center Ballroom B. The Women of Excellence Awards are
designed to acknowledge those members of the campus
community who enhance and make a positive difference
in the lives of women at EMU. Please RSVP no later

LIVE DRIVE: 89.1 WEMU will
broadcast
part of its spring
pledge drive from the
Michigan
Theater in Ann
Arbor. |
WEMU to broadcast
spring pledge drive from Michigan Theater: 89.1,
WEMU, Eastern Michigan University’s public
radio station, will broadcast part of its spring
pledge drive live from Ann Arbor’s Michigan
Theater, beginning at 6 a.m. Friday, March 27, with
a special edition of its popular film segment, "Cinema
Chat." Michigan Theater Executive Director Russ Collins
and Artrain President Debra Polich will join WEMU’s
David Fair in asking for pledges for three hours
of NPR’s
"Morning Edition." 89.1 Jazz, with Linda Yohn, will
follow with special guest Tamara Real, from the Arts
Alliance. Also on 89.1 Jazz, Michael Jewett will
be joined by local author and playwright, OyamO.
Live fundraising continues at the Michigan Theater Saturday, March
28, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday, March 29, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with Dr.
Arwulf hosting "Sunday Best."
Live broadcasts
continue at the Michigan Theater Monday, March 30, through
Thursday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The
live broadcast Friday, April 3, begins at 6 a.m. and includes
special guests Ken Fischer from the University Musical
Society and a live performance by Mr. B. The pledge drive
concludes Saturday, April 4, with a live broadcast that
begins at 8 a.m. and ends with Jeremy Baldwin and The Roots
Music Project from noon to 2 p.m.
All other programs will broadcast from WEMU’s studios on EMU's campus
and will include special pledge editions and guests. Volunteers, including
many members from area businesses, will answer pledge calls at the theater.

hosts an Eastern
Excursion to the March 26
Pistons-Lakers game. |
Eastern Excursion
to Pistons game: Campus Life ventures
out to see the Detroit Pistons take the court against
the L.A. Lakers Thursday, March 26, 5:30 p.m., at the
Palace of Auburn Hills. Tickets include transportation
and admission. Tickets are $25 for EMU students and
$55 for the general public. Each patron must fill out
an insurance form, which can be found at the Center
for Student Invovlement front desk, third floor, Student
Center. To purchase tickets, call the EMU Ticket Office

- LibQUAL library survey: The Bruce T. Halle Library is conducting research using
the LibQUAL Survey to assess library service quality and
identify best practices through March 27. Responses will
help the library better understand information needs and
establish priorities for improvement. Participation is
confidential and voluntary. Survey participants may be
eligible for the following prizes: (1) $500 undergraduate
scholarship, (1) $500 graduate scholarship, Visa gift cards
and 1GB flash drives. To access the survey, visit

Become an Academic Service-Learning
Faculty Fellow: Attention, full-time tenured
and tenure-track faculty. Are you interested in engaging
your students in community-based learning? Become a fall
2009 Academic Service-Learning (AS-L) Faculty Fellow.
Academic Service-Learning is a teaching methodology which
engages students in community service as a means of helping
them gain a deeper understanding of course objectives,
acquire new knowledge and engage in civic activity. Applications

- Course Management System
(MS) solution sought: The
Course Management System (CMS) Selection Committee will
conduct on-campus interviews with six vendors for a CMS
solution that best meets EMU's online educational requirements.
The interviews include a public morning session, to which
all instructional staff, students, academic support staff
and academic administrators are invited. The interviews
are scheduled 9-10:45 a.m., room 216, Pray-Harrold. Vendors
and dates are as follows: Blackboard (Vista), Monday, March
30; eCollege, Monday, April 6; and rSmart (Sakai), Monday,
April 13. The remaining two vendors have not yet been scheduled.

- Mathematics department
program review: The mathematics department,
one of the Academic Review and Continuous Improvement
Cycle's departments, has completed its program reviews
for 2008-2009, and invites the campus community to provide
input and feedback to complete the review process. All
interested faculty and staff are invited to review and
comment on the mathematics department's program reviews
electronically through Monday, March 30. To access the
Mathematics Department program review report, login to
my.emich, click on the REPORTS tab, and click on the
IRIM Reports. From the list, choose "How to Provide Comments
for the Academic Review and Continuous Improvement Cycle." For

- Distinguished Speaker
Series concludes April 2: Rear Admiral Sandra
L. Kweder, deputy director of the Office of New Drugs,
U.S. Food and Drug Administration, presents "Directions
for the FDA in an Era of Change," April
2, 7:30 p.m., St. Joseph's Hospital Continuing Education
Auditorium. Kweder has an outstanding reputation in
the area of antiviral, especially HIV, drug development
and has led the Division of Postmarketing Surveillance
and Epidemiology at the Office of Antimicrobial Products.
This is the final lecture in this year's Clinical Administration
Distinguished Speaker Series. For more information,

- EMU Latino Alumni Scholarships
available: The
EMU Latino Alumni Association's Fall 2009-Winter 2010 alumni
scholarships are now available to be picked up at the Center
for Multicultural Affairs office, room 358, Student Center.
Applications are due Monday, April 6, by 5 p.m. Incomplete
applications will not be accepted. To request an application

to apply for a Study Abroad program. Deadlines have
been extended for most programs, but time is of the
