The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents announced its own retention of the Detroit-based law firm, Butzel Long, P.C., for purposes of conducting an independent inquiry into the University's response to the death of EMU student Laura Dickinson.

During the March 20 Board of Regents meeting, Board Chairman Tom Sidlik said, "The Board strongly believes an independent analysis of the University's handling of this matter is reasonable and appropriate."

Sidlik also indicated Regent Jim Stapleton will chair a three-member subcommittee of the board that will include Regents Fran Parker and Gary Hawks. The subcommittee will oversee the work performed by Butzel Long.
