Regents approve 17 new staff appointments

The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents approved the appointments of 17 staff at its regular meeting March 20.

Of the 17 appointments, 12 (71 percent) are female and five (29 percent) are males. The group includes 10 Caucasians (59 percent), six African Americans (35 percent) and one Asian (6 percent).

Those receiving appointments are:

Shaftone Dunklin, of Jackson, assistant director, veteran's services, office of the registrar. Dunklin most recently was a doctoral fellow in EMU's Department of Leadership and Counseling from 2001-2006. Previously, Dunklin was an adjunct professor in EMU's Department of Leadership and Counseling during 2004. Dunklin received his master's degree in college student personnel from Slippery Rock University (Pa.).

Kenneth Adkins

Adkins

Kenneth Adkins, of Toledo, Ohio, director, business support systems, accounting. Adkins previously was systems analyst on a number of projects at Eastern Michigan University from 2000-2007. Prior to that, Adkins was business systems adviser, merchandising/store operations, for Seaway Food Town, Inc., in Maumee, Ohio, from 1990-2000. Adkins received his associate's degree in applied business from Owens Technical College in Perrysburg, Ohio.

Andrea Chickonoski

Andrea Chickonoski, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., director of special events and public engagement. Before coming to EMU, she was stadium event coordinator and fan services representative for the Baltimore Orioles' spring training operation in Fort Lauderdale from 2005-2007. Prior to that, she was in charge of recreation programming, marketing and sponsorships for the City of Fort Lauderdale Festivals and Events Department from 2003-2004. Chickanoski received her bachelor's degree in marketing from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla.

Roxana Newman, of Ann Arbor, administrative associate I, English language and literature. Previously, Newman worked in a variety of positions in the office of international programs at Indiana University from 1993-2006. She was editor-in-chief, senior writer and photographer of "International News," the news magazine for the office of international students; coordinator of the university's Pretoria Program in American Studies; the inaugural associate director of Title VI National Language Center for Languages of the Central Asian Region; and the inaugural project director for Indiana University's Asian Culture Center. Newman received her doctorate and master's degree in linguistics, both from UCLA; and her bachelor's degree in French, also from UCLA.

Jackie Moffett

Jackie Moffett, of Hattiesburg, Miss., coordinator, intramural programs, REC/IM. Before coming to EMU, Moffett was an inventory specialist with the Doctor's Hospital at Renaissance during 2006. Prior to that, he was program director of intramurals at the University of Tennessee from 1994-2006. Moffett received his bachelor's degree in recreation from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Denise Kowalski

Kowalski

Denise Kowalski, of Ypsilanti, clinical supervisor, speech and hearing, College of Education clinic. Previously, Kowalski was clinical supervisor at Eastern Michigan University during 2006 and was a speech language pathologist in private practice from 2002-2007. Kowalski received her master's and bachelor's degrees in speech pathology, both from Eastern Michigan University.

  • Deborah Clearwater, of Mount Pleasant, senior secretary, retention services.
  • Melanie Jones, of Detroit, customer service representative II, continuing education-Livonia.
  • Michele Roman, of Belleville, senior secretary, physical plant.
  • Laura Arbaugh, of Ypsilanti, custodian, Student Center.
  • Danara Bryan, of Westland, custodian, custodial services.
  • Herbert Fortune, of Ypsilanti, custodian, Student Center.
  • Haydee Mullins, of Ypsilanti, custodian, HDC support services-housing.
  • Carol Paul, of Ann Arbor, custodian, custodial services.
  • Jimmie Williams, of Ypsilanti, facilities maintenance coordinator, HDC support services-housing.
