  • Board of Regents: The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents meets Tuesday, April 1. The schedule is as follows: Athletic Affairs Committee, 12:45-1:30 p.m., 201 Welch; Faculty Affairs Committee, 12:45-1:30 pm., 205 Welch; Student Affairs Committee, 1:45-2:30 p.m., room 201; Educational Policies Committee, 9-10 a.m. and 1:45-2:30 p.m., 205 Welch; Finance and Audit Committee, 2:30-4 p.m., Welch 201; and regular board meeting, 4:15 p.m., Welch 201.   • Blood drives on campus: Eastern Michigan University will partner with the American Red Cross to host blood drives Tuesday, April 1, through Thursday, April 3, noon to 6 p.m., Student Center. To set up an appointment online, go to www.givelife.org and enter the sponsor code "EMU".
  • New staff photos needed: New staff (with a rank of PT07 or higher) who will be approved at the April 1 Board of Regents meeting need to schedule headshots this week. Photos will be used in an April issue of FOCUS EMU and for University Communications' files.   • Eagle Exchange: To enhance the spirit of community at EMU, Don Loppnow, EMU's executive vice president and provost, will host an Eagle Exchange, Thursday, April 3, 4-6 p.m., University House. Eagle Exchange is a series of receptions that gives all EMU faculty and staff the opportunity to connect outside of the office.   • Education First Merit Scholarship Essay Contest: Eastern Michigan University and the Detroit Pistons are "Goin' to Work" to sponsor the Education First Merit Scholarship Essay Contest for high school juniors and seniors. Grand prizes include $7,500 in tuition and fees for one high school junior to attend EMU in 2009-2010 and the same for one high school senior to attend EMU during 2008-2009. SPRING GAME: The EMU football team
plays its spring game Saturday, April 5,
noon, at Rynearson Stadium.

  • Spring football game: The EMU football team will play their spring game, Saturday, April 5, noon, Rynearson Stadium. Kids are invited to stretch with the team before the game at 11:30 a.m. Admission is free and season tickets are available to purchase. For more information, call 487-1050.
  • Charity Texas Hold 'em tournament: The EMU chapter of Habitat for Humanity will host a Texas Hold 'em tournament to raise money for the Eagles Nest Project (ENP), Sunday, April 6, 3:30 p.m. to midnight, Student Center Grand Ballroom. The public is welcome, but players must be at least 18. There is a limit of 300 players. Tickets cost $45 and will be sold through the EMU box office at the Convocation Center and the Student Center. Payout to first through fourth place depends on the number of players. Pre-registration is required.   • ASIMCO chair to discuss business in China at EMU breakfast series: Jack Perkowski, chairman and chief executive officer of ASIMCO Technologies, will be the guest speaker at EMU's College of Business Breakfast with the Dean series Friday, April 11, room 114, College of Business. The free program begins with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m., followed by a program at 8 a.m. ASIMCO is a foreign-invested company headquarted in Beijing and is one of the most important players in China's automotive components industry. Perkowski's new book, "Managing the Dragon: How I'm Building a Billion Dollar Business in China," will be available for signing. For information, call Shirley Wentz, 487-4140.
