A.R. Rahman |
A.R. Rahman to perform
benefit concert April 15: A.R. Rahman,
one of India's leading musicians and music director
for Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Bombay
Dreams" and
the musical, "Lord of the Rings," takes to
the stage for a benefit concert Saturday, April 15, 7:30
p.m., Convocation Center. The concert, "Wake Up!
A.R. Rahman with 150 All Stars," will bring together
Rahman's works on stage through colorful costumes and
set designs, along with Indian and American singers and
dancers. Rahman also will perform with the Global Rhythm
All Stars, a group of more than 150 American artists
that have played with numerous Grammy-winning artists.
Cellist V.R. Sekar; singer/actress Vasundhara Das; and
singer/actor Kailash Kher also will perform. Tickets
are $50-$205 and are available by calling the Convocation
Center, 487-2282, or go to www.emich.edu/convocation
or www.tickets.com. Proceeds will be used to create opportunities
for students to gain greater understanding of Indian
culture and the arts. Students with a current, valid
student ID can purchase two tickets for the concert at
the discounted price of $25 each. This includes all students,
not just those from EMU. However, we do need to verify
the student ID, which requires that students purchase
tickets in person at the EMU Convocation Center Ticket
Office Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; or EMU's
Quirk Theater, Monday through Friday, noon-5:30 p.m.
Tickets for students also will be available at McKenny
Union Tuesday, April 4, through Thursday, April 13, weekdays
only, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Student/student groups also are
encouraged to sell tickets for the A.R. Rahman show.
If a student sells 10 tickets to the show, they will
receive one $25 ticket for themselves. This is a great
way to receive free admission to the concert. If interested,
contact Ron Reid, Convocation Center Ticket Office, 487-2282
or e-mail him at ronald.reid@emich.edu. For more
information, go to www.emich.edu/convocation/rahman_concert.htm
