Former carpenter shop foreman, religious affairs administrator die

George Davie, who worked for Eastern Michigan University 20 years as a foreman in the carpenter shop, died March 25 in Ypsilanti. He was 87.

Davie was honorably discharged from the United States Army Air Corp., in which he served during World War II. He served in the 8th and 9th Air Corp. in Europe and was involved in the invasion of Normandy.

Davie worked at EMU from 1965-85.

He was an usher for St. Alexis Church in Ypsilanti from 1946 until it closed in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Iva; three sons, Dennis Davie, Gary Davie and Scott Davie; one daughter, Susan Wiseman; one sister, June Harvey; eleven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Charles Minneman

Minneman

Charles Minneman, who worked at Eastern Michigan University from 1959-76 and retired as director of the Office of Religious Affairs, died March 2 in Oxford, Ohio. He was 76.

Minneman served as assistant chaplain at Penn State University and in various staff positions at EMU, including director of religious affairs, director of campus concert and lecture events, assistant dean of the graduate school and director of United Ministries in Higher Education.

He was a graduate of Capital University, Trinity Seminary and the Yale Divinity School.

Survivors include a sister, Emily Irwin, of Toledo, Ohio; a brother, Lester Minneman, of Maumee, Ohio; four nieces and a nephew.
