EDUCATIONAL PARTNERS: Eastern Michigan
University and WWJ Newsradio 950 have teamed
up to create Education Minute, which offers
educational tips and advice to help parents
complement and extend the learning their children
do in school.

Education Minute began airing daily April 7, at 9:22 a.m., 12:23 p.m.; 5:40 p.m., and 9:53 p.m. Daily topics to be covered are Math (Mondays); Technology (Tuesdays); Writing and Reading (Wednesday); Science (Thursdays); and Learning Beyond the Walls (Fridays). Each week will feature a different age focus, ranging from pre-kindergarten to college.

The series also includes Web resources at www.wwj.com for parents who want to learn more than what can be gained in a one-minute spot.

"This is an excellent opportunity to partner with Eastern Michigan University. EMU is the pre-eminent university for training teachers in Michigan's classrooms," said Georgeann Herbert, director of programming and E-publications for WWJ. "They are the experts on early child development and academic preparation."

"WWJ also will host an Education Minute Web site at WWJ.com, featuring educational information and serving as a reference for listeners. All features will be posted as podcasts on WWJ.com, along with supplemental interviews from EMU experts and those in other fields."

"We're excited about the new program because it is designed to empower parents and guardians to get involved in their children's education," said Russ Olwell, director, EMU Gear UP, a partnership to promote college readiness and success. "It draws on the extensive resources of the EMU faculty in education to provide research-based ideas to help students achieve, from pre-K to college admissions."
