The EMU Board of Regents approved the collective bargaining
agreement between Eastern Michigan University and the UAW
Local 1976 at its regular meeting June 19. UAW Local
1976, which represents the professional/technical staff,
has 395 members.
The new four-year agreement is retroactive to July 1,
2006, and continues through June 30, 2010.
Highlights of the four-year contract include a $1,260
flat rate increase retroactive to July 1, 2006; a $1,406
flat rate increase effective July 1, 2007; a $1,563 flat
rate increase effective July 1, 2008; and a 3-percent raise
effective July 1, 2009. The contract is retroactive to
July 1, 2006. The agreement also includes new medical
benefit language, which goes into effect Jan. 1, 2008.
It is projected the agreement will increase the University's
fiscal year 2006-07 compensation costs by $625,898; $476,327
more in 2007-08; $618,001 by 2008-09; and $669,986 by 2009-10.
