The following are news briefs about important
activities and events ocurring at Eastern Michigan University.
- Michigan's new minimum
wage law: For employers of student employees, Michigan's new minimum
wage of $6.95 per hour becomes effective Oct. 1. Please
consider hiring students at the new minimum wage for fall
term. All students not at the new minimum wage by Oct.
1 will automatically be increased to comply with the law.

- Gifts of Art
Exhibition at Ford Gallery through Oct. 13: In
April 2006, the EMU Art Department became the recipient
of 635 pieces of contemporary artwork, through the
generosity of a Michigan businessman. The collection
includes lithographs, silkscreen prints and etchings
from internationally renowned artists such as Itzchak
Tarkay, Jamie Wyeth, Barbara Wood and Carol Jablonsky.
An exhibition of approximately 30 works from this
collection will be shown in Ford Gallery through
Oct. 13. For more information, call 487-0465.

TAILGATE TIME: An alumni
tailgate is scheduled
at the EMU
football road game at
Northwestern
University Sept. 16.

- Northwestern
alumni tailgate to take place Sept. 16: Join
fellow alumni and friends for food and fun, and show
your green and white spirit at an Alumni Tailgate.
Get prepared to root the Eagles as they tackle the
Wildcats of Northwestern. The event will take place
Saturday, Sept. 16, in Evanston, Ill., at Peter Jans
Golf Course starting with an 11 a.m. tailgate, followed
by a 1 p.m. kick-off. Friends and guests are welcome
to attend. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for ages
6-12, and free for ages 5 and under. Advanced tailgate
tickets are required. For more information or to

- Varsity Baseball Alumni
& Friends Golf Tournament: Register to participate
in the 12th Annual Ron Oestrike Varsity Baseball Alumni & Friends
Golf Tournament Sept. 18, Majestic Golf Course at Lake
Walden, in Hartland. Registration and breakfast start
at 8:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
The Million Dollar Shootout, sponsored by UASI, occurs
at 3:30 p.m., with dinner and an awards program at 4
p.m. The golf package is $125 per person and includes
18 holes of golf with shared cart, open driving range,
breakfast with beverages, beverage cart, gifts and raffle
prizes, plaques for winners, longest drive and closest
to the pin contest, a Million Dollar Shootout, and a
dinner and awards program. Please send your registration

- Online survey
input sought: The
Division of Student Affairs Work Group for Service Delivery,
in collaboration with Human Resources, is seeking input
on the various ways departments motivate, reward and/or
recognize professional staff and student employees. To
do this, an online survey has been created and is available
at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=487202262683 All
staff and faculty members are invited to answer the
questions to this brief survey and identify their ideas
in regards to motivating, rewarding and/or recognizing
employees. Those who provide their contact information
will be eligible to receive one of five possible prizes!
The deadline to complete the survey is Sept. 30. Once
the information has been compiled, it will be made available
to the campus community for review.
