  • All-Campus Picnic set for Sept. 20: Members of the Eastern Michigan University community are invited to attend the annual All-Campus Picnic Thursday, Sept. 20, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mark Jefferson Mall.   • Board of Regents to meet Sept. 21: The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents is scheduled to meet Friday, Sept. 21. The schedule is as follows: Athletic Affairs Committee, 12:45-1:30 p.m., Room 201; Faculty Affairs Committee, 12:45-1:30 p.m., 205 Welch Hall; Student Affairs Committee, 1:45-2:30 p.m., 201 Welch Hall; Educational Policies Committee, 1:45-2:30 p.m., 205 Welch Hall; and Finance and Audit Committee, 2:30-4 p.m., 201 Welch Hall; and the Regular Board meeting, 4:15 p.m., 201 Welch Hall.   • Teaching Excellence Awards scheduled Sept. 22: Celebrate some of EMU's outstanding professors Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Alumni Association's 17th Annual Teaching Excellence Awards. This year's recipients are: Anthony (Troy) Adams, sociology; Jessica (Decky) Alexander, theatre and educational drama; Heather Neff, English language and literature; Ronald Williamson, leadership and counseling; Valerie Howells, occupational therapy; and Vijay Mannari, engineering technology. Tickets are $18 each, or a table of eight can be reserved for $120 by contacting the Office for Alumni Relations, 487-0250, or e-mail alumni.relations@emich.edu.
Eastern Excursion - tigers game

CHEER THE TIGERS: Eastern Excursions is
offering a trip to the Sept. 26 Detroit Tigers
game against the Minnesota Twins.

  • Eastern Excursions plans trip to Tigers game: Campus Life once again has an Eastern Excursions program this year. A trip to the Sept. 26 Detroit Tigers game is first up. A chartered bus will transport students and staff to watch the game at Comerica Park. A ticket costs $25 for students and $45 for staff. A ticket will cover transportation, admission to the game, and a free soda and pizza slice/hot dog. For tickets, call the EMU box office, 487-2282. Limit two per student.
  • Become a Faculty Development Fellow: Conduct scholarly inquiry into one core area of faculty development of personal choosing and disseminate results through teaching and mentoring. This five-semester commitment provides tenured faculty with ¼-time, paid release to follow their development interests.   • Mentor early career, tenure-track faculty: Join the Senior Faculty Support Initiative. Become part of a forum of mentors, provide tools and resources for new and early career faculty, and evaluate and modify this initiative. The Faculty Development Center will provide a $400 grant to support departments that want to start or expand support programs for early career faculty.   • Dylan, Costello to play Convo Center Oct. 12: Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello, plus Amos Lee, will perform live Friday Oct. 12, 7 p.m., Convocation Center.   • VH1 Best Week Ever Live: VH1 Best Week Ever Live will take place Oct. 19, 9 p.m., Pease Auditorium. Doors open at 8 p.m. The event will feature comedians Chuck Nice, John Mulaney, Laurie Kilmartin and Mike Britt. Tickets are on sale now. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for the general public.   • English help available for international students: The International Student Resource Center (ISRC) is open for the Fall 2007 semester! The ISRC offers one-on-one tutoring for EMU international students who need extra help with their English language skills. The IRSC hours are as follows: Monday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The ISRC is located in Room 200 of the Alexander Building.   • Writing Center fall hours set: Fall hours for the EMU Writing Center, located in 209 Pray- Harrold, are Monday through Wednesday, 8:30 am to 6 p.m.; Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. To make an appointment, call 487-0694.   • Online department directory revisions: Revising your online departmental directory is as easy as copy, paste and e-mail. Copy the department listing of the online directory you need revised. Paste it to a Word document to make the revisions. E-mail the revised document as an attachment to: dept_directory@emich.edu and show the department name as the subject of the e-mail.
