  • Annual Security Report available: A copy of Eastern Michigan University's Annual Security Report is now available. This report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Eastern Michigan University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning sexual assault, and other matters.   • All-Campus Picnic scheduled Sept. 23: An all-campus picnic is scheduled Tuesday, Sept. 23, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mark Jefferson Mall. The EMU community is invited to attend the annual picnic to celebrate the fall semester and welcome newcomers to campus.   • New EMU e-mail information sessions: Come learn about the new EMU e-mail system scheduled for implementation Oct. 3, 2008. Information sessions are being offered and include a Q&A section, along with a "sneak-peek" of the new EMU e-mail Web client. To register, go to https://ict.emich.edu/training/register and select the session you want to attend.   • (un)Civil Defense art exhibit: This art exhibition in Ford Gallery features artwork by Zachary Orcutt and Claire Rau, through Oct. 18 in Ford Gallery.   • Falcon, Casanova scholarships available: The EMU Latino Alumni Association is currently accepting applications for the Carlos Falcon and Roy Casanova scholarships. Applications can be picked up in the Center for Multicultural Affairs (CMA) office, room 358, Student Center.   • Breakfast with Bubba: Come join the W-4 Country staff as they broadcast live at the Eastern Eateries, Wednesday, Sept. 24, 7-10 a.m. Eastern Eateries will be raffling off iPods and EMU sweatshirts. A country breakfast will be available with your meal plan or $6.30 cash or flex. Breakfast will include country ham, biscuits with gravy, grits, scrambled eggs, homestyle hash browns, fresh fruit, bite-size pecan rolls and a large fountain beverage or coffee.   • Cousin Jeff returns to EMU: Jeff Johnson, host of the Black Entertainment Television show, "The Truth," will lead a discussion about the importance of setting goals when he returns to EMU Wednesday, Sept. 24, 6-7 p.m., Student Center Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. Johnson, who was the keynote speaker for EMU’s celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 2008, will talk to students about the importance of planning their future and staying motivated.   • 2008 presidential campaign course: The department of political science is offering a special section of PLS 112 (American Government) dedicated entirely to the 2008 presidential election and its aftermath. This specially designated PLSC 112 section showcases 10 department faculty discussing various aspects of the election; a different faculty member will lecture each week. There also will be special events, including: movies, mock debates and an election-watch party. Lectures are open to the public, and non-PLSC 112 students are encouraged to attend these classes that carry Learning Beyond the Classroom (LBC) credit.   • Faculty eFellows: The eFellows program was created to support faculty in getting the resources needed to integrate technology into their teaching. The program has been continued for the 2008-2009 academic year for tenured or tenure-track faculty and full-time lecturers. Priority funding will be given to proposals that focus on projects that involve faculty-to-faculty collaborations; collaborations and partnerships between faculty and students to integrate technology into learning or research; redesign of face-to-face formatted courses into Web-enhanced courses that focus on specific pedagogical issues; or innovative projects that involve the integration of technology as learning objects or strategies to achieve the learning outcomes of a course that has been vetted into the General Education curriculum.
