- Intellectual property
and technology transfer workshop: Come learn
how Eastern Michigan University can assist you in transferring
your innovations to the marketplace for the public good,
or in leveraging additional dollars to support your research

City income tax proposal
to be discussed: The Eastern Votes Coalition
hosts a a panel discussion about the proposed City of
Ypsilanti income tax and its impact on EMU employees
and students, Thursday, Sept 27, 6:30 p.m., Roosevelt
Auditorium. Ypsilanti Mayor Paul
Schreiber, City Manager Ed Koryzno, EMU Student Body
President Greg Jones, Residence Hall Association President
Alli Sheppard, and representatives from both the "pro" and "anti" tax proposal
organizations wil be attending. The event is open to
the public and there will be an opportunity for audience
members to ask questions of the panelists. For more information,

- Cell phone
drive: Have
an old cell phone you don't know what to do
with? Donate it to the Women's Resource Center. Cell
phones will be collected and donated to SafeHouse Center
to be used in case of an emergency. Phones will not carry
a service, but will be used to dial 911. Collection boxes
are located at the Women's Resource Center in room 356
of the
Student Center; in front of the welcome center at Halle
Library; Student Center information desk, The Village
front desk, Hoyt Hall front desk, and Putnam Hall's
Student Success Office. For more information, contact

- Regional marching
band competition planned: More than
30 nationally recognized high school marching bands
from across the Midwest entertain and compete in
the Bands of America Ypsilant Regional Contest for
the chance to perform in the evening's regional championship
finals Saturday, Sept. 29, Rynearson Stadium. This
all-day event features a guest performance
by EMU's Marching Band. General admission for preliminaries
or finals competitions is $14. Admission to both
competitions is $21. For information and advance tickets,

- Campus Life
sponsors Chicago excursion: Chicago
is a big, gutsy Midwestern marvel, sweeping along
Lake Michigan's shore. Come explore the cultural
aspects of the Windy City, and leave room for some
Navy Pier fun during a Campus Life excursion. It
all happens October 6-7. A ticket ($125 and $150)
includes transportation, to, from, and around Chicago,
three small meals, hotel, and passes to area attractions
including Shedd Aquarium, The Field Museum and Underground
Adventure, Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum,
Museum of Science and Industry and OMNIMAX, The Hancock
Observatory, and Navy Pier. For more information,

- Brand launch in high
gear: The Eagle has landed. Eastern Michigan
University's external brand launch is in high gear. The
campaign began with an unveiling of EMU's tagline, "Education
First." The
campaign includes print, radio, television, billboards,
campus signage, signs on Coke trucks and SMART/AATA
buses, and advertisements on the scoreboards at
Comerica Park and The Palace. The video played at the
internal brand launch is now online. For more information,

- Nutrition Services
offers healthy advice: The Office of
Nutrition Services offers
nutrition counseling on topics such as healthy eating,
weight management, and sports nutrition. The office also
performs body fat and muscle mass analysis, and much
more. A registered dietitian and student dietitians
are available to answer your nutrition questions.
Student fees are $5
and faculty fees are $10. Come by or call for an appointment
today. Hours: Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.,

- Carlos Falcon Scholarship
announced: The Office of Diversity and
Community Involvement announces the Carlos "El
Jefe" Falcon
Scholarship. This $1,000 award will be equally distributed
during the fall and winter semesters. Students must
have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, and demonstrate
student leadership involvement in the Hispanic/Latino
community or student
organizations. Preference shall be given to students
who have involvement with Hispanic/Latino community/student
organizations. Applications are available in 340 C Student
Center. The deadline to apply is Oct. 8. For an online

- Roy Casonova Scholarship
announced: The Office of Diversity and Community
Involvement announces the Roy Casanova Scholarship.
This $500 award will be equally distributed during
the fall and winter semesters. Graduate students must
be enrolled in eight credit hours and undergraduate
students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours.
Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Preference shall
be given to students who have roots from a migrant
family background. Applications are available in room
340 C, Student Center. The deadline to apply is Oct.
