Jerry Robbins, former dean of EMU's College of Education,
and Alvin E. Rudisill, the first dean of EMU's College
of Technology, were granted honorary emeritus status by
the Board of Regents at its regular meeting Sept. 21.

According to University policy, retiring employees who
have served the University for less than 15 years may be
granted honorary emeritus status for meritorious service.
"Both Dr. Robbins and Dr. Rudisill provided outstanding
leadership as college deans that resulted in extraordinary
growth and development of their respective colleges," said
Don Loppnow, executive vice president of EMU. "During their
tenure as deans, both Dr. Robbins and Dr. Rudisill served
the University broadly and contributed significantly to
the advancement of the institution."

Rudisill served at EMU from 1980-1991 as the first dean
of the College of Technology. Working with the faculty,
he provided leadership in the design, development, and
implementation of 18 new undergraduate and graduate programs
in information and technology areas. He also was instrumental
in the design and development of the corporate services
division, the unit that evolved into the Center for Corporate
Training.
Robbins served as the dean of the College of Education
from 1991-2004. During his 14-year tenure, the college's
enrollment grew to an all-time high, and sponsored projects
and fund-raising efforts grew significantly. Under Robbins,
the College of Education was successfully reaccredited
by NCATE three times.
