The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents approved
the appointments of seven new lecturers at its regular
meeting Sept. 21.
Of the seven appointments, five are female and two are
male. These faculty appointments were effective Aug. 29.
New lecturers and their departments are:

Barley |
Lisa Barley, of Ann Arbor, lecturer III,
management. Barley has been a lecturer in speech at Eastern
Michigan University since 1998 and part-time lecturer in
management at EMU since 2002. Previously, she was an assistant
professor of communications and general education department
chair at Cleary University from 2003-2006. Barley received
her doctorate in communication from Wayne State University
and her master's and bachelor's degrees in comunication,
both from Kent State University.
Laura Buhl, of The Dalles, Oregon, lecturer I, geography
and geology. Buhl previously was an associate planner and
planning assistant for Wasco County from 2005-2007, and
was a housing program assistant for the Mid-Columbia Housing
Authority from 2004-2005. Buhl received her master's degree
in community and regional planning from the University
of Oregon and her bachelor's degree in American studies
from Mills College.

Day |
Christine Day, of Canton, lecturer III,
management. Day has
been an adjunct professor at EMU since 1990 and has extensive
human resources experiences with Ford Motor Company, where
she has worked since 1977. Day received her doctorate in
organizational development and communications from Union
Graduate School, and two master's degrees — in English
and American literature, and speech communications — and
a bachelor's degree, all from Eastern Michigan University.
Harry Derderian, of Farmington Hills,
lecturer I, marketing. Before coming to EMU, Derderian
was a senior account manager for Small Parts, Inc., in
Southfield, from 2000-2007, and was a senior program manager
with Ralco Industries in Auburn Halls from 1989-2000. Derderian
received his MBA from Western New England College and his
bachelor's degree in public relations from Boston University.
Frances Doe, of Ypsilanti, lecturer
I, marketing. Doe has been a part-time student teacher
supervisor at EMU since 2006. Prior to that, she was a
third-grade teacher with Lincoln Consolidated Schools in
Ypsilanti from 1978-2006. Doe
received two master's degree — in reading, and
guidance and counseling — and her bachelor's
degree in early elementary education, all from Eastern
Michigan University.
Amy Johnson, of Ypsilanti, lecturer I,
communication and theatre arts. Johnson had been a communication
instructor at EMU since 2006. Before that, she was a speech
and English teacher at Normal Community West High School
in Normal, Ill., from 2002-2005. Johnson received her bachelor's
degree from Illinois State University,
John Staunton, of Ypsilanti, lecturer
III, English. Before coming to EMU, Staunton lectured at
the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, from 2003-2007.
He also lectured at Hanover College from 2001-2003 and
at Indiana University from 2000-2003. Staunton received
his doctorate and master's degree from Fordham University,
his education specialist's degree from Indiana University
and his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre
Dame.
