- Children of Darfur: Picturing
Genocide: Learn more about genocide in Darfur
at "Children
of Darfur: Picturing Genocide," an exhibition of
artwork from children in refugee camps in Darfur. The
exhibition is scheduled Monday, Sept. 25-Sunday, Oct.
1, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Faculty Commons, Halle Library. Students
Take Action Now Darfur (STAND) sponsors this event. For

Swanson |
So long, Cheryl: The
campus community is invited to give their best wishes to
Cheryl Swanson, director of the Convocation Center, at
a farewell reception Wednesday, Sept. 27, 5-7 p.m., Frenchie's
in Depot Town. Swanson has taken the position of director
of the Breslin Center at Michigan State University. For

- Salyer retirement reception: Judy
Salyer, assistant director of student business services,
is retiring after 22 years of dedicated service to EMU.
The Business and Finance Division invites you to join them
in wishing her well Thursday, Sept. 28, 3 p.m., 205 Welch

Fall Convocation set
for Sept. 29: The 2006 University Convocation is scheduled Friday, Sept.
29, 10 a.m., Quirk Theatre. President John Fallon will
give a State of the University address, and the University
will celebrate the winners of the 2006 Institutional Values
Awards in six categories. For information, contact 487-2483.
- Beaugrand retirement
reception: A retirement reception for
Gerri Beaugrand is scheduled Friday, Sept. 29, 2-6
p.m., McKenny Union Ballroom. R.S.V.P. to Toni Taylor
at 487-3129 by Tuesday, Sept. 26.
- International
student support group: A weekly support
group for international students is being established
to help students successfully adjust to EMU. The
group is co-facilitated by a licensed professional
counselor and advanced graduate students in counseling
at the COE Counseling Clinic. The group will meet
Wednesdays, 5-6:30 p.m.,135 Porter. Participants
will share experiences and discuss aspects
of culture, customs, skills and strategies in making
a successful adjustment. A maximum of 10 participants

- Tigers game: Campus
Life hosts an Eastern Excursion to the Detroit Tigers'
final regular season home game Saturday, Sept. 30. EMU
student tickets are now on sale for $22. Cost includes
a game ticket, food voucher and motor coach transportation.
The bus will depart at 6 p.m. and return at approximately 11 p.m. For information,

- 2006 National
Health Care Policy Forum: The future
of health care in Michigan and the nation will be
discussed at a 2006 National Health Care Policy Michigan
Forum Saturday, Oct. 14, 2 p.m., EMU Convocation
Center.
Join Gov. Jennifer Granholm, gubernatorial candidate Dick
DeVos, Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Michigan Congressman
John Dingell, health care policy expert Henry Simmons and
Richard Douglass, EMU's own health care policy expert,
for this forum sponsored by EMU.
The national health care policy forum represents collaboration
between the National Health Policy Council, the AARP, and
the National Coalition on Health Care to create an opportunity
for gubernatorial candidates, as well as a panel of health
care policy experts, to discuss the future of health care.

bus trip: A football fan bus trip is scheduled
for a road game against Bowling Green State University,
Oct. 14 (bus leaves at noon). Fans must purchase a $5
bus ride ticket from the Convocation Center Ticket Office,
487-2282.
- Office of Nutrition Services
open: Do you want to learn how to eat healthier
on campus? Do you want help with making your diet work more
effectively for you? Let's see what your body is made up
of? The office can offer individual nutrition counseling
sessions with a registered dietician; a body composition
analysis, which measures your weight in fat and lean muscle
tissue; or a nutrient analysis of a three-day food record
and gain information about your caloric and nutrient intake.
Prices for each service are $5 for EMU students and $10 for
faculty, staff and community members. For information, call

- HR professional
development program: Ever wonder why
Generation X employees work differently than the
baby boomer generation? Or how your department will
be affected by Generation Y entering the work force?
Diane Syner, from Ceridian Lifeworks Employee Assistance
Program, will present a Human Resources Professional
Development Program Oct. 19, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.,
room 300, Halle Library. The program will offer training
on how to manage the University's growing inter-generational
work force. Class space will be limited to the first
