Regents approve faculty/lecturer promotions, appointments

The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents approved the granting of tenure to two faculty members and the appointment of one new tenure-track faculty member at its regular meeting Sept. 19.

In addition, the Board approved the promotion of two lecturers and appointed four others.

Faculty granted tenure are:

Choudhuri

Choudhuri

Devika Choudhuri, of Ypsilanti, assistant professor, leadership and counseling. Before coming to EMU, Choudhuri was a teaching assistant and adjunct instructor in the department of counseling and human services at Syracuse University from 1997-2006. Choudhuri received her doctorate in counselor education from Syracuse University; her master's degree in counseling from the University of Vermont and her bachelor's degree in psychology and women's studies from Smith College in Northampton, Mass.

Barbara Ross, of Ann Arbor, associate professor, accounting and finance. Ross previously was a professor of accounting in the University of Michigan-Flint's School of Management from 2002-2006. Ross received her doctorate in accounting from Michigan State University; and her master's and bachelor's degrees in accounting, both from the University of Michigan.

Robert Teehan, of Ypsilanti, assistant professor, School of Technology Studies. Teehan most recently was an adjunct instructor in EMU's College of Technology, from 1996-2006. Teehan received his doctorate in organization and management at Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn.; his master's degree in liberal studies and his bachelor's degree in science, both from Eastern Michigan University.

Lecturers promoted include:

Martin Brown, of Ypsilanti, lecturer II, biology. Previously, Brown was a lab technician at Washtenaw Community College from 2003-2006. Before that, he was a graduate teaching assistant at EMU from 2000-2002. Brown received his bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Bowling Green State University.

Kathleen Segar, of Ann Arbor, lecturer II, music and dance. Segar has performed for the Dayton Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, Washington Opera and the Opera Company of Philadelphia, among others. Segar received her master's degree in voice performance and her bachelor's degree in voice performance and music education, from the University of Michigan.

Lecturers appointed include:

Nancy Gordon, of Saline, lecturer I, Office of Academic Services. Gordon's teaching experience includes elementary and middle school. Gordon received her master's degree in elementary education from Eastern Michigan University and her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Bowling Green State University.

Henry Hastings, of Grosse Pointe Park, lecturer III, marketing. Prior to coming to EMU, Hastings was an education consultant and policy adviser from 2002-2006. Clients included The Michigan Institute for Safe Schools and Communities, Michigan State University and the State of Michigan, Department of Community Health. Hastings was an instructor III at Eastern Michigan University during 2006. Hastings received his Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University; his doctorate in educational foundations and policy from the University of Michigan; and his bachelor's degree from the University of Detroit Mercy.

Karen Sanford, of Canton, lecturer I, teacher education. Sanford previously was with Birmingham Public Schools from 1994-2006 and was an enrichment specialist for West Maple and Quarton elementary schools from 1997-2003. Sanford received her master's degree in elementary education from Eastern Michigan University and her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Central Michigan University.

Bradley Sietz, of Canton, lecturer I, library. During 2006, Sietz was a field experience director with the University of Michigan's instructor college. He was a reference assistant for the University of Michigan's Taubman Medical Library from 2005-06. Sietz received his master's degree in information and his bachelor's degree in business administration, both from the University of Michigan.
