Katie Holdgreve-Resendez Why I

The first time I set foot on campus, I knew this was the place I would call home. From the moment I started at EMU, faculty and staff took the time to help me learn, develop and grow into the person I am today.

With all of the guidance I was receiving as a student, I thought it would be great to work with students to help them find their niche in the world. Nine years later, that is what I get to do: I wake up every morning and work with students.

I coordinate the First-Year Mentor Program and New Student Orientation and nothing compares. New students are excited, yet anxious and nervous; ready to conquer the world, but not quite sure where to start.

The students, faculty, and staff at EMU are an amazing group of dedicated people. While I was gone for graduate school, I could not wait to get back home (to EMU). The spirit and energy at EMU are contagious and something I greatly missed while away.

Much of this spirit and energy surrounds Homecoming. I am happy to be part of the festivities and, for the third year, will be coordinating the selection process for Homecoming king and queen.

Court finalists are announced at the Sept. 29 pep rally and winners are announced during halftime Oct. 1. There's an indescribable level of excitement and anticipation by family and friends before the winners are announced that every student should experience. It's amazing!

I gained so much from EMU and can think of no better way to give back than by helping current EMU students find their passion and place in a world filled with endless possibilities. I am happy to be home!
