EMU Regents approve six tenure-track faculty

The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents approved
the appointments of six new tenure-track faculty at its
regular meeting Sept. 16.
Of the six new faculty appointments, two are male and
four are female. Demographics show that five (83 percent)
are Caucasian and one (17 percent) is Hispanic. These new
tenure-track faculty appointments are effective Aug. 27.
New tenure-track faculty and their departments are:
- James Banfield, of Ann Arbor, assistant
professor, School of Technology. Prior to coming to Eastern
Michigan University, Banfield worked with Borders Group
as a manager of mid-range systems from 2004-2008. Banfield
received both his master’s degree and his bachelor’s
degree from Eastern Michigan University.

Gossett |
- Andrea Gossett, of Livonia, assistant
professor, School of Health Sciences. Before coming to
Eastern Michigan University, Gossett worked as a visiting
project coordinator at the University of Illinois at
Chicago’s
Occupational Therapy Department from 2006-2008, and as
a research assistant there from 2004-2006. Gossett received
both her doctorate and her master’s degree in occupational
therapy from the University of Illinois at Chicago; and
her bachelor’s
degree in occupational therapy from Eastern Michigan
University.
- Ana Harten, of Ann Arbor, assistant
professor, special education. Prior to coming to Eastern
Michigan University, Harten worked as a speech pathologist
at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center from 2005-2008.
Harten received her doctorate in educational psychology
from the University of Texas at Austin; master’s degrees in speech-language
pathology from Eastern Michigan University and in cognitive
psychology from Federal University of Pernambuco in Brazil;
and her bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology
from Catholic University of Pernambuco in Brazil.
- Jeanne McDonagh, of Saline, instructor,
School of Nursing. Before coming to Eastern Michigan
University, McDonagh was an assistant professor of nursing
for community healthy nursing/oncology nursing at the
University of Toledo from 1994-2008 and an instructor
there from 1991-94. McDonagh received her master’s
degree in nursing from the University of Toledo and her
bachelor’s
degree in nursing from the University of Michigan.

Rhodes |
- Robert Rhodes, of Saline, assistant
professor, School of Health Promotion and Human Performance.
Before coming to EMU, Rhodes was in a variety of positions
with the University of Michigan Hospitals’ Department
of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from 1987-2008.
These included orthotist III, director of the division
of orthotics and prosthetics, instructor and chair of the
education committee. Previously, he was department head
of rehabilitation technologies at Shelby State Community
College from 1981-86. Rhodes received his master’s
degree in health services administration from Memphis State
University and his bachelor’s
degree in religion/philosophy from Mercer University.
- Jayne Yatczak, of Ypsilanti, instructor,
School of Health Sciences. Before coming to Eastern Michigan
University, Yatczak was senior occupational therapist
at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills from 2000-08
and, prior to that, a staff therapist at Manor Care Health & Rehabilitation
from 1997-2000. Yatczak received her master’s degree
from Eastern Michigan University and bachelor’s
degrees from Eastern Michigan University and the University
of Michigan.
