ICT will upgrade my.emich portal Oct. 14-15

My.emich, the campus's online services since fall 2002, will be receiving an upgrade.

The upgrade, which essentially will provide options for students and faculty to customize their portal pages, is scheduled Oct. 14-15. The upgrade will begin at 5 p.m. Oct. 14 because Thursday evenings has traditionally been the time period when e-mail is used the least on campus, said Margaret Cline, chief information officer of Information and Technology Communications (ICT).

EMU President Samuel Kirkpatrick

"To make this change, we have to take down the e-mail server," Cline said. "Portal services won't be available for 1 1/2 days."

She added the upgrade was scheduled near a weekend so, that if the process took longer, it would take place when the system is not in heavy use and provide an additional two days.

During the upgrade, e-mail, calendars and group services will not be available. However, WebCT and the Internet will still be able to be accessed during the upgrade.
