  • Rolling Exhibition: Kevin Connolly's images capture people in all walks of life as they notice Connolly, who was born without legs. In a provocative multimedia presentation, Connolly's Rolling Exhibition features his perspectives on curiosity, human nature, and disabilities, hoping to make people question their natural reactions. The talk features some of the best of his 3,200 photos he shot while rolling through his subject's streets, from the vantage point of his skateboard. Guest lecturer Connelly lectures Tuesday, Oct. 14, 7 p.m., in the Student Center Grand Ballroom. This free lecture counts as Learning beyond the Classroom credit.   • Telegraph Art Collective: The seven members of Telegraph, an artist collection that originated in Detroit, will bring parts, pieces, sketches and notes to campus and spend three days creating site-specific work. "EMU as Muse: A Project of the Telegraph Art Collective" will make the people and resources of EMU the subject of art, Oct. 14-Nov. 24, University Art Gallery. A reception is scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 14, 5-7 p.m., with a gallery talk by the artists at 5 p.m. For more information, contact Larry Newhouse at 487-0465 or 487-1077.
  • Volleyball hosts "Dig Pink" fundraiser: EMU Volleyball is going all pink as they host the second annual "Dig Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser, with proceeds from the event going to the Side-Out Foundation. The team will wear pink jerseys against Miami (Ohio) University Saturday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m., Convocation Center. The Side-Out Foundaton is a Virginia-based, nonprofit organization established in 2004 by a group of individuals drawn together by their love of volleyball, and their passion to be a part of the war against breast cancer.   • Explore Eastern: Eastern Michigan University's Explore Eastern is a great way for high school students, transfer students and graduate students to learn about EMU and how an EMU education can launch the path to their future. The next Explore Eastern event is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 18, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The day begins at the EMU Student Center. For more information, call 1-800-GO-TO-EMU.   • Stress Buster for faculty and staff: Human Resources sponsors an employee wellness program, "A Better Way to Live: Controlling Stress with Meditation," a four-week class taught by Martha Kimball. Classes are free and will take play Oct. 21 and 28; Nov. 11 and 18, 5:30-7 p.m., Kiva Room, Student Center. Enrollment space is limited, so register early. To register, go to hr_tdp@emich.edu.   • The 2008 Election: The Effects on Seniors: A Senior Alumni Brown Bag Lecture, "The 2008 Election: The Effects on Seniors," is scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 21, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m, room 350, Student Center. Friends and guests are welcome to attend.

"This even is a great way for senior alumni to learn from the quality professors at Eastern about the upcoming election and the effects on their generation," said Christine Mikolajczak, assistant diector of advancement activities.

  • A Ghostly Tour: The EMU Student History Association sponsors "A Ghostly Tour" in the historic Highland Cemetery Friday, Oct. 24, 5:30 p.m.until dusk, 943 N. River St., in Ypsilanti. James Mann, a local historian and columnist for The Ann Arbor News, will be the tour guide. For those taking the tour, meet in the department of history and philosophy lobby, seventh floor, Pray-Harrold, at 5:15 p.m. The group will walk over to the Highland Cemetery together.   • Teaching Excellence Awards: The 18th Annual Teaching Excellence Awards are scheduled Saturday, Oct. 25, 9:30 a.m., in the Student Center Ballroom. John Mayernick, history; Anita Rich, communication and theatre arts; Clovis Semmes, African American Studies; Joe Bishop, teacher education; Karen Carney, special education; and Colleen Croxall, School of Heath Sciences, will be honored. Friends and guests are invited to honor these distinguished professors. Tickets are $15 per person or $8 for students.   • Continuing Education Scholarships available: Four Continuing Education Scholarships are available for students studying through Continuing Education. Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in any of the programs offered through Continuing Education during the winter or spring 2009 terms are eligible. The application deadline is Nov. 1, 2008. Application forms are available at http://www.ce.emich.edu/.
  • EMU, Comcast offer "Education on Demand": Eastern Michigan University and Comcast have launched "Education On Demand," a new package of 10, one-minute education videos for college-bound students. Comcast's On Demand subscribers are able to view the videos by clicking on Channel 888, selecting "Career & Education" and then "Education First." Topics include applying for financial aid, choosing the right college, studying in a group, getting the most out of a campus visit and note taking.
