Editor's Note: In the Oct. 18 issue of FOCUS EMU, a
story on Marti Bombyk, professor
of social work, covered her
affiliation as a board member with SafeHouse Center, a
United Way agency. In the article, Bombyk underscored the
severity of the problem of violence and sexual assault
in the community, noting that there were two deaths in
Washtenaw County this past year due to domestic violence.
She also stated that SafeHouse Center served 3,500 clients
last year. However, these are two separate facts. Because
Safehouse Center has a strict confidentiality policy of
its service participants, Bombyk does not know whether
the fatalities involved persons who used SafeHouse Center
services.
