Dr. Susan W. Martin will be invested as the 22nd president
of Eastern Michigan University during inaugural ceremonies
Thursday, Nov. 20, at 11 a.m., in Pease Auditorium. She
is the first female president at EMU in its 159-year history.
Martin, 58, officially took office July 7, after being
appointed to the post by the EMU Board of Regents in May.
Prior to her appointment, she served as provost and vice
chancellor of academic affairs at the University of Michigan-Dearborn
since 2006.
The inauguration will feature remarks by Chairman of the
Board of Regents Thomas Sidlik and Dr. Richard N. Robb,
who served on the board from December 1967 to December
1992.
A campus and community-wide reception will immediately
follow at the EMU Student Center.
Martin has an extensive background both in education and
government. The majority of her higher education career
was at Grand Valley State University, where she taught
and published as professor of accounting and taxation.
While at Grand Valley, she served as director of the master
of taxation program, director of international business
programs, and chair of the accounting and taxation department.
