The following are news briefs about important activities and events happening at Eastern Michigan University.

  • Safety and security open forums: Eastern Michigan University will host two open forums about campus safety and security. The forums are scheduled Tuesday, Nov. 13, 6-7:30 p.m., Ballroom B, Student Center ; and Thursday, Nov. 15, noon to 1:30 p.m., Room 310, Student Center. Don Loppnow, executive vice president for EMU, will lead a team of University representatives to provide updated information about safety and security, and answer questions.   • Faculty and Staff Giving Program underway: Your gift. Your choice. The EMU Foundation's Faculty and Staff Giving Program is underway. Please go to the Faculty and Staff Giving Web site at http:www.emufoundation.org/fsg_index.asp. You will find frequently asked questions about the program and a link to their online gift form. This form makes it easier than ever to designate your gift to any accounts, programs or scholarships that you choose to support. You can make a gift online with a credit card or choose to pay by check or payroll deduction.

    Sustainable development and global business: The College of Business and the College of Technology present, "Sustainable Development and Global Business: A Panel Discussion," Tuesday, Nov. 13, 5-6 p.m., room 317, College of Business. Pradeep Chowdhry, associate professor of management, presents "Global Sustainable Development: An Overview." Louise Jones, program coordinator of the interior design program, presents "Sustainability and Responsible Interior Design in a Global Perspective." William Moylan, coordinator of the MS construction management program, presents "Sustainability in International Construction Projects." David A.   • Graduation Fair: Are you graduating in December? If so, don't miss the Graduation Fair, Tuesday, Nov. 13; and Wednesday, Nov. 14, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., EMU Bookstore, Student Center. EMU students will be able to place cap and gown orders, view and order class rings and personalized graduation announcements, and learn more about December commencement and the EMU Alumni Association.   • Annual poinsettia sale: The EMU Women's Association sponsors its annual poinsettia sale through Nov. 14. All orders for poinsettias and wreaths must be prepaid. Profits from this sale will be added to the association's scholarship fund, ensuring more scholarships for more students each year. Pick-up is scheduled Nov. 29, room 121, Halle Library.   • Pancake breakfast scheduled Nov. 14: Eastern Eateries hosts a pancake breakfast Wednesday, Nov. 14, 7 a.m. to noon, Eastern Eateries. The menu includes pancakes with assorted toppings, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, fresh fruit salad, muffins and a large beverage of choice. The breakfast is open to the campus and all invited guests. Eastern Eateries is located between Phelps-Sellers and Walton-Putnam residence halls. Cost is $6.10.   • Campus Camp Wellstone: Know any student activists? Campus Camp Wellstone is a 1 1/2-day training program taking place on campuses around the country. It is nonpartisan and welcomes both seasoned activists and campus leaders as well as those who are completely new to progressive activism. Skills that will be taught include: leadership development, understanding power, strategic campaign planning, how to work with the media, motivating and mobilizing people for action and more. Campus Camp Wellstone is scheduled Nov. 30, 3-9 p.m.; and Dec. 1, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., room 300, Student Center. Applications are due Friday, Nov. 16, in the VISION suite, room 346, Student Center.   • Children's Institute fundraiser: The EMU Children's Institute Savory Sweets cookie dough and popcorn sale continues through Monday, Nov. 26. The 3-pound, ready-to-bake cookie dough costs $10 per tub, due with the order. Proceeds ($4 per tub) will go toward a new toddler gym floor. Items will be available for pickup Wednesday, Dec. 12, after noon, in 103 Rackham. For more information, call Beth Kahl, 487-2348.

    Family Film Series continues Dec. 2: Campus Life and the Children's Literature Program will sponsor a series of family-friendly movies based on great works of children's literature. Showings are scheduled: The Night of the Hunter," Sunday, Dec. 2; "Akeelah and the Bee," Sunday Feb. 3, 2008; "Bridge to Terabithia," Sunday, March 2, 2008; and, "Meet the Robinsons," Sunday, April 6, 2008. Admission is free and all movies begin at 2 p.m. in the Student Center Auditorium. For information, call 487-3045.
  • Online department directory revisions: If you want your department information to be included in the online campus directory, just follow these easy to use instructions: Copy the department listing of the online directory you need revised; paste it to a Word document to make the revisions; and e-mail the revised document as an attachment to dept_directory@emich.edu and show the department name as the "Subject" of the e-mail, without making reference to "department, directory, or re:".   • Faded ID card replacement: Attention, faculty and staff. Is the photo on your new ID card fading? The Eagle Card office recognizes that, due to a problem with the card printer, some photos on the new IDs have begun to fade. The printer has been fixed and we would like to replace these cards for free. If you would like your faded card replaced, please bring your current ID to the Eagle Card office and we will print a new card while you wait. The Eagle Card office is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For questions, call 487-3176.
