Eastern Michigan University's United Way campaign moved
closer to its goal of $110,000, raising $102,466 as of
Nov. 12.
"I think, given the state economy and changes in employee
contributions to healthcare, I feel this year's campaign,
'Unity in Our Community,' went exceptionally well," said
Jessica "Decky" Alexander,
an associate professor of communication and theatre arts
who is one of three co-chairs for EMU's united Way campaign. "I
believe that we will meet last year's total pledge amount
of $106,000. Staff and faculty at EMU are quite giving
in both time and financial support, as this current campaign
reflects."
To date, there are 27 Leadership Givers, 25 Labor Leaders
and 60 Caring Club members, Alexander said.
Holly Smith, executive secretary in the president's office/governmental
relations, said she expects more pledges to trickle in
this week, particularly from emeritus faculty.
