I love teaching at EMU. There is so much diversity here. You have different cultures and we are all together. We are all in the same classroom sharing ideas, which makes teaching here unique and interesting.
Being an educator is a wonderful career. It's so fulfilling to know that you are making a difference in students' lives. Students come in with little knowledge in communication and leave well prepared at the end of the semester.
I try to motivate students. I think the best method is hands-on. Students get more out of my classes when they participate in groups and learn by doing rather than just listening.
EMU's future is promising. When I attended it years ago, it was wonderful, and it continued to evolve into a wonderful campus. I would like to see our Communications Department grow and develop into a bigger department allowing more adjuncts to join in as full-time lecturers.
I would like to earn my doctorate in communications, work at EMU and continue to make it a positive place for students to study. I think I am going to be one of these instructors that teach until they drop. It is a passion I can't see my life without it. I grew up in a Hispanic family and I was the first to graduate from college in my family. So, I feel blessed to be where I am at today and to share my knowledge with students.
The students are bright and eager to learn at EMU. I hope my children attend EMU. How much better could it get for me?
