Eastern Michigan University's newest regent is Mohamed
Okdie, 58, a school social worker for the Detroit Public
School System.

Okdie replaces Ismael Ahmed, who resigned to lead the
Michigan Department of Human Services. Okdie, who was appointed
by Gov. Jennifer Granholm, will serve a term that expires
Dec. 31, 2008.
Okdie received a bachelor's degree in anthropology and
a master's degree in social work from Wayne State University.
Prior to working for the Detroit Public School System,
Okdie was a psychiatric social worker at Detroit Receiving
Hospital and was a community liaison for Congressman John
Conyers.
The EMU Board of Regents is composed of eight volunteers
who are appointed by the Governor. The next Board of Regents
meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 27.
