Dario V. Ontiveros, who worked more than 20 years at Eastern
Michigan University as a senior accountant, died Nov. 9.
He was 71.
Ontiveros came to EMU in 1969 as an auditor. In 1974,
he was promoted to plant fund accountant and moved up to
treasury accountant in 1978 before retiring in 1992.

As treasury accountant, Ontiveros oversaw the cash control
function of the University through the proper accounting
and investing of on-hand funds. He also reviewed and updated
cash control procedures and negotiated with banks and other
financial institutions to carry out short, medium- and
long-term investments.
Before coming to EMU, Ontiveros was a senior auditor for
Colgate Palmolive and Co. in Caracas, Venezuela. He was
a junior auditor for Arthur Anderson & Co. in Caracas
and a former assistant accountant for Ernst and Ernst in
Caracas. He also had served in the Venezuela Marine
Corps.
Ontiveros received his master's degree in educational
administration from EMU and his bachelor's degree in public
accounting from Santa Maria University in Caracas.
He was a longtime member of the National Association of
Accountants, and served in several volunteer positions
for the organization. He became a naturalized American
citizen approximately 20 years before his death.
Survivors include two stepsons, Joseph Hoagbin and Paul
Scott Hoagbin, both of Omaha, Nebraska; a brother, Filipa;
and two sisters, Patricia and Gladys, all from Venezuela.

to Alegent Health Hospice.
