The following are news briefs about important
activities and events happening at Eastern Michigan University.
- EMU Finance 101: "Building
Transparencies," the first in a series of EMU Finance
101 training sessions, is scheduled Tuesday, Nov. 28,
10 a.m.-noon and 2-4 p.m., Student Center Auditorium.
The session was developed to educate everyone about EMU's
finances and budget development in an effort to promote
transparency and trust within the community. This is
an opportunity to learn and provide feedback for future
topics. Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information,

TREASURE ISLAND: EMU Theatre's production
of
"Treasure Island" begins Saturday,
Dec. 2, 11

- Treasure Island: Ahoy
mateys! Set sail for a slapstick adventure loaded with
pirates and dames, song and dance, tricks and treasures
in "Treasure Island," a musical for the young and old,
the landlubber or the ship's mate. The EMU Theatre production,
directed by Phil Simmons, is scheduled Dec. 2 and 9, 11
a.m. and 2 p.m.; Dec. 3, 2 p.m.; and Dec. 8, 8 p.m., Quirk

- Youth basketball group
outings: Attention,
EMU faculty and staff members. Do you have a son or daughter
playing youth basketball this winter? If so, EMU
Athletics would love to host their team at an EMU men’s
or women’s
basketball game. Group ticket and concession discounts

- Leapin' Lizards: Comic
Art Returns to EMU: "Leapin' Lizards" is the inaugural exhibition
of EMU's new art gallery in the Student Center. The third
in a series of shows at EMU of original comic art, "Leapin'
Lizards" celebrates the artistry, vitality and
imagination of those who devote their careers to writing
and drawing cartoons and comics. The exhibition is
scheduled through Jan. 12. For more information, call

- New bachelor's degree
completion program: EMU is now offering
a degree to help individuals who never completed
their undergraduate degree to “return to learn.” The
program allows students to transfer an unlimited number
of credits from other institutions to EMU. Through
the program, students earn a bachelor’s of science
degree in cross-disciplinary studies. The program is
currently available at EMU’s off-campus sites

- Faculty Council scholarship: The
University's Faculty Council is offering a $500 scholarship
for the Winter 2007 term. The criteria are: (1) class standing
of sophomore, junior, or senior, (2) GPA of 2.5 or better
and (3) evidence of student leadership. Apply online at
www.emich.edu/facultycouncil before Monday, Dec. 12. UFC
President Daryl Barton will indicate the winner after the
Wednesday, Dec. 13, meeting of the University Faculty Council
Executive Board.
- TCF Bank now open at
EMU Student Center: TCF Bank opened its
campus banking branch at the EMU Student Center Nov.
20. TCF Bank is the official EMU campus bank, which
also operates two ATM machines inside the Student Center.
Branch hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday;
and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For more information,
