As a full-time lecturer in the communication
and theatre arts department, I teach a variety of communication
courses. I wish they had these classes when my kids were
young because I've learned a lot by teaching my students.
My teaching philosophy is that a teacher has the task of empowering others.
Whatever subject or approach is followed, she or he is
engaged in an activity designed to improve or enable others.
I believe that culture is the framework through which all
of us make sense of the world. It is cultural differences that can become
an incredibly rich, intellectual adventure at any age.
Research is an important aspect for me in teaching. For several summers
I've worked with third-year medical students, training them
in empathetic listening skills.
Bike riding, hiking, tap-dancing, yoga and gardening all help me keep
young and fit. I enjoy these activities very much and have fun doing them.
There is nothing I would rather do than teach here. This is my perfect
job and I could not see myself doing anything else. I get
up every morning happy to start the day with a wonderful
place to work and with students who love to learn.
