The EMU Foundation is reporting a 28-percent increase
in funding from endowed scholarships and endowments for
fiscal year 2004-05. It's the first time such funding has
exceeded $1 million in EMU's history.
More than $1.226 million was provided to the University
from the endowment, an increase of approximately $270,000
from the previous year.

"We are proud to report this positive news to our donors
and the EMU community. This is a reflection of the generosity
of our alumni and friends, and we hope they realize their
gifts are extremely valuable, especially in these tough
economic times," said Laura Wilbanks, executive director
of Foundation operations and chief financial officer.
In addition, gifts in excess of $2.1 million were received
in FY 2004-05 for student scholarships, both expendable
and endowed. This is an increase of approximately $600,000
over the last fiscal year.
"This significant increase is in an area where the EMU
Foundation has a direct impact on the University's student
population and shows that our donors understand that our
students need help to complete their education," said Thomas
Stevick, interim vice president for advancement and executive
director, EMU Foundation.
