The EMU Board of Regents approved the collective bargaining
agreement between Eastern Michigan University and the EMU
Federation of Teachers (EMU-FT) at its regular meeting
Nov. 15.
The new agreement between EMU and the EMU-FT extends from
Sept. 1, 2005 to April 10, 2010.
The new agreement raises the minimum salary for lecturers
to $27,500 and provides a 3.2-percent salary adjustment
to the academic base salary in the first year and a 2-percent
adjustment in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
Full-time lecturers will be provided with a standard health
care plan at no cost or be allowed to "buy up" to a modified
version of their current plan. The same items are covered
under both plans, but the standard no-cost plan provides
for increased cost sharing for prescription drugs, office
visits and procedures.
The University also agreed to increase TIAA-CREF contributions.
Effective Sept. 1, 2005, EMU's contribution increased to
9.5 percent of base salary, then increases to 10 percent
of the base salary effective Jan. 1, 2006.
It is projected that the proposed agreement will increase
the University's fiscal year 2005-06 compensation costs
by approximately $128,622 and by about $82,962 in 2006-07.
The EMU-FT represents approximately 180 full-time lecturers.
