Chris Shell, associate registrar for the past 2 1/2
years, was named registrar of Eastern Michigan University,
effective Nov. 11. Bernice Lindke, associate vice president
for enrollment services, made the appointment.
As registrar, Shell will direct and administer all matters
related to registration, reenrollment, student records,
graduation and transcript processing for current and previous
students.
"It's (promotion) a nice recognition for the work I've
always tried to do for students at Eastern," Shell said. "The
best role I can play to make services better to students
is where I want to be, which right now is by being the
registrar."

To help current students, Shell said her office is looking
at a more widely used Curriculum Advising and Program Planning
(CAPP) system for degree audit purposes. The registrar's
office also will be involved in the AQIP process, assisting
with the University's continuous improvement action projects.
These include strengthening customer service and academic
advising, as well as "writing across the curriculum" as
it pertains to EMU's new general education program, which
will commence in fall 2007.
"Our office is involved in the implementation of the general
education program," Shell said. "We want to give students
the right information to take the right classes to graduate
in a timely manner."
Shell began her career at EMU in 1997 as assistant
director of records in the registrar's office. From
1995-97, she was associate director of financial aid at
GMI Engineering & Management Institute in Flint
and director of financial aid at Adrian College from 1991-95.
Shell received her master's degree from Eastern Michigan
University and her bachelor's degree from Adrian College.
