The following are news briefs about important
activities and events happening at Eastern Michigan University.
- Great Lakes Crossing
excursion: A whole day of shopping fun,
great dining options and entertainment at the arcade,
movie theatre and more will take place at Great Lakes
Crossing, Saturday, Dec. 9. A bus departs at 9:30 a.m.
and returns at 6 p.m. Cost is $10 for EMU students
and $18 for staff/faculty. The cost includes motor
coach transportation to the mall. For information,

PLENTY OF PASTA: Eastern Michigan University
students partake in a spaghetti dinner this fall
at St.
Luke's Epsicopal Church. The next spaghetti
dinner
is Sunday, Dec. 10, 5-6:30
p.m.

- St. Luke's hosts spaghetti
dinners for EMU students: St. Luke's
Episcopal Church is reviving an old tradition — sharing
a meal with EMU students — that dates
back to the 1950s and 60s. The next dinner is scheduled
Sunday, Dec. 10, 5-6:30 p.m., St. Luke's Episcopal
Church, 120 N. Huron St., Ypsilanti. Dinners for
the winter semester are scheduled Jan. 21, Feb. 18,
March 18 and April 22 (tentatively). For more information,

- Gold VIP concert
reception: Graduates
of the Last Decade (GOLD) are invited to attend a private
reception in the Stadium Club at the EMU Convocation
Center for The All-American Rejects concert, Monday,
Dec. 18. The event is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and will
feature complimentary hors d'oeuvres, courtesy of
Weir Manuel Realtors of southeast Michigan, and a
cash bar. GOLD alumni attending the event will also
receive a VIP parking permit. There is no cost to
attend. However, advance registration and concert

- Cellar Roots Charles
McKenny Award: Cellar Roots, EMU's visual
and literary arts journal, announces the Charles McKenny
Award. The award is an avenue for artists outside the
EMU community to submit work to Cellar Roots for publication
consideration. McKenny, president of EMU from 1912-1930,
wrote a book of poetry, "The Cycle of the
Year: Fugitive Poems," that was published posthumously
in 1934. McKenny Award winners will be published in the
36th Cellar Roots anthology, "Roles," scheduled for
release in March 2007. Thereafter, the award will be

Student Center: The campus branch of TCF
Bank is currently open in the EMU Student Center. TCF
Bank is the official EMU campus bank and operates two
ATM machines inside the Student Center. Branch hours
are 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Friday; and 11 a.m.-4

- My.emich downtime: Many
administrative systems including my.emich self-services,
e-mail, eBill, Banner, WebXtender, ePrint, Merit Dial-up,
WebCT, the Library reference databases, and other systems
that require your my.emich username to log in will be unavailable
Friday, Dec. 8, 7 p.m.-midnight, while ICT conducts system
maintenance. ICT apologizes in advance for any inconvenience.

- Distinguished
Faculty Award nominations sought: The
Provost's Office is accepting nominations for the
2006 Ronald W. Collins Distinguished Faculty Awards.
These awards recognize faculty who excel in teaching,
scholarly activity or service to the University.
Teaching I, Teaching II, Scholarly/Creative Activity
and Service to the University are the four award
categories. The awards, each worth $3,500, embody
Academic Affairs' commitment to recognizing and promoting
faculty excellence. The awards will be presented
at the Faculty Awards ceremony March 28, 2007. Nomination
forms and supporting documents must be submitted
to the appropriate department head by Jan. 5, 2007.

- Faculty Showcase call
for papers: The Bruce K. Nelson Faculty
Development Center is accepting proposals for papers,
posters and workshops for the Faculty Showcase March
9, 2007. For application guidelines and forms, visit

is Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007. For more information, e-mail

- Notice to all EMU employees: Per
Internal Revenue Service regulations, if you are changing
your exemption status or withholding allowances for 2007,
you are required to complete a new Federal W-4 Form: Employee's
Withholding Allowance Certificate. For questions, please
call the payroll office, 487-2393.
- EMU Podcasting
Initiative: The Bruce K. Nelson Faculty
Development Center is accepting applications for
participation in the EMU Podcasting Initiative
during winter 2007. For application and information,
