I came to Eastern Michigan University 18 years ago because the department
was looking for someone to fill in for a year in the activity division.
After working hard in that area, I was able to develop it so much so that
the area grew large enough to maintain student interest in that capacity.
I grew up in very segregated neighborhoods in Chicago and, other than
my experiences at Chicago State and Oklahoma State universities
for graduate work, it was Eastern Michigan that gave me
the fortune to converse and mingle with other cultures. The variety and
multicultural experiences, and the willingness of my students to share
their ideas with me have broadened my methods in teaching. What I have
learned from my students, thus far, has contributed to my growth as a
person.
One of my favorite classes to teach is yoga because students of many
abilities can participate in this form of exercise. It is rewarding to
see the students grow and develop from the challenges and experiences
in my class, and become better students through the gains of discipline
and emotional health that Yoga supplies.
Eastern offers many opportunities to expand and develop.
The camaraderie of the faculty and staff here is like no
other that I have experienced in a work environment.
