Andrew Abad

Andrew Abad is a senior at Eastern Michigan University double-majoring in political science and communications, he is the recipient of several scholarships, including the Bruce K. Nelson Endowed Scholarship, Scholarship Series Winner (both obtained from the Undergraduate Symposium), Undergraduate Research Fellowship, the Gregory W. Stevens Scholarship and the Regents Scholarship.

“Scholarships have played a crucial role in my years at EMU as an undergrad,” states Abad. “Through the generous assistance of donors and endowments, I have been able to strike a successful balance between my academic goals and work responsibilities.”

The scholarships have also given Abad more time to focus on his senior thesis, which “will play a large role in graduate school admissions moving forward.”

Abad, from Troy, also participates in the EMU College Democrats as their communications coordinator and is a member of the Honors Student Association.

“As a communications coordinator [for EMU College Democrats], my role is largely to ensure that we are engaging and connecting with other students, the EMU and surrounding communities, and other college democrat organizations across the state…working with the President and the executive board, I also work to schedule speakers, plan events and advocate for issues the organization believes in.”

After graduation, Abad will be attending EMU’s graduate school in Fall 2014 to pursue a Master’s in Political Communication. “I am interested in becoming a political consultant, research assistant, or communications coordinator for the Democratic Party, [either for] a particular candidate or political organization.”

Abad graduated in December 2013 and will pursue his master’s this fall.
