FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What are the admission requirements for the Certificate?
If you wish to complete the 18-credit hour Graduate Certificate in Dementia, you must apply and be accepted into the Graduate School at EMU.  You DO NOT have to be enrolled in a master’s degree program.  A minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required.  GRE scores are not required.

2. How do I apply for admission to the Graduate School?
There are two ways to apply for admission.

1. To request a paper application, contact the Office of Admissions, Eastern Michigan University, P.O., Box 970, Ypsilanti, MI 48197.  Telephone:  734. 487.3060 or 1.800. Go.To.EMU.  Completed application, the $35 application fee and your official transcripts should be sent to the Office of Admissions.  Please note that it is possible to enroll in a dementia course prior to acceptance to the Graduate School.  This course will count as a credit towards the Certificate in Dementia Care.

2. To apply online, go to www.emich.edu. Put the cursor over “Future Students” (don’t click it).  The drop down box will appear on the right.  Click on the second link “Apply to EMU”.  The center of the page will have two options.  It is important that you pick the second option that will say “Create an application online user name and password.”  Click on the continue button for this option.  Input the information required to create your own user name and password. Then click on “add user” at the bottom of the page.  You will then be taken to the next page and can begin to “Create New Application”.  It is important that you keep your user name and password for future reference.  The online application fee is $25.
